Question about Volkswagen GT

1 Answer

Motor car electrical fault

I have VW Passat S TDI Estate (Feb 2004). For the last two days, the 'luggage compartment open' (tailgate) indicator light has stayed on, even though all 5 doors are firmly shut. Also, during same period, the alarm horn has sounded for perhaps 30 seconds for no reason on at least three random occasions. I suspect these faults are connected - any ideas, please, of the reason and any suggestions for remedy (preferably DIY)? I have the same problem with my Golf GT TDI.It happened a few weeks ago and I thought my husband had solved the problem until last night. It started all over again. Last time he squirted WD40 on the rear catch as 1 of the catches was getting stuck (apparently there are 2 catches) and stopprd the alarm going off, and the luggage compartment open sign from coming on. Hopefully he will do the same later and it will work.
Does anyone know how to disable the alarm but still lock the car, I've read the manual without any joy.

Have taken the boot lid trim off, disconnected the micro switch from the boot catch and used a hairdryer to dry the connector housing out and also the switch connector for the dead lock. Put all back together and all is fine. Fingers crossed!

Ok....the problem is the rear washer pipe has blown of in the tailgate where it connects to the motor,it happens when you operate the rear washer when it is frozen.the connection is fairly weak and cant cope with pressure build up.in both cases you need to remove the tailgate trim, reconect the pipe and dry out the catch as that has a micro switch in it that operates the warning light for tailgate open and the alarm.it is shorted out with water hence the false alarming and warning light on........if you pop the bonnet but dont open it that will stop alarm from arming as temp fix,but dont forget to shut it before you drive off .hope this helps, please rate this ,thx

Vw gt tdi 1.9 warning signal flashes luggage compartment open when i am driving.

Hi p_ barber4
This problem is usually caused by a faulty lock in the luggage compartment door. Sometimes by removing the lock and motor, clean and lightly lubricate the moving pin can cure the problem.
Worth a try before you invest in a lock.
