Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1996 Jeep Cherokee wont start

My Jeep wont turn over what so ever, even tho I have replaced the ing switch and starter. There is power to the starter, but still not engaging. I have already checked the fuses and relays and everything seems fine. I looked in the shift console for a nutreul safety switch and found nothing.

okay same problem i'm guessing truck wants to start but wont turn over, had a clicking sound when wife tried to start the only way it starts is when we try to jump it and pump the pedal when you are turning the key. Just replaced spark plugs and wires 3 months ago battery is about a yr old and replaced the crankshaft sensor same time as the battery. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to jump power directly on the starter? make the BIG power cable touch the small one on the starter with it still in the engine.(power touching the starter solenoid) use a LONG screwdriver to make them touch. you will not get shocked just make sure you only touch those 2. it will spark a bit but just hold it on there. if your starter clicks and does nothing then you have a bad starter. if it works then you have other problems. If it starts to smoke stop and make sure your engine is not frozen by turning the crankshaft with a large ratchet.

make sure voltage flows WHEN cranking also. check voltage at the starter while cranking. make sure it maintains 12 volts. or very close to it. nothing below 10.8 volts. check for corrosion on battey cables if voltage drops below that. that shows you have a curremt problem. also check grounds. or make new ones you know are good.

Good luck

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start. Serpentine belt broke, so I replaced it, but now it will not start even with a jump. only clicks. Starter?

Maybe.
But what caused the belt to break ?
You might want to make sure the crank will turn and that the engine is not locked up.
If the crank turns, you would need to check for battery voltage at the starter.

1996 jeep cherokee, wont crank in neutral or park. It did it on saturday, then rectified itself. Now its done it again and wont start. All the lights etc work and the fluid levels are fine. Any ideas?

remove switch wir the small one from starter motor when it won't crank and test with a test light to see if it has power when key in crank position if has power starter motor or starter solenoid is bfaulty. if no power could be ignition switch or possably immobilizer fault.

Put key in.. gauges work.. have power.. wont start.. its not clicking.. i think maybe a relay for the starter, not the starter it's self.. 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I-6.. your oppion?

I THINK YOUR RIGHT! CHECK FUSES AND RELAYS FOR POWER ALSO IF THE POWER SUPPLY TO STARTER IS NOT A GOOD CONNECTION THEN IT WILL FAIL TO EVEN TRY TO START. GOOD LUCK!

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine wont start when key is turned on. here a click when key is turned but that is it. battery has a charge. could this be a relay problem

Remove battery connections and clean them, or try twisting cables. The clicking is the solenoid kicking in. Your likely not getting enough power there to engage the starter. Other wise, your starter is probably bad, you can try tapping it with a hammer or what ever else you can hit it with. Don't try to kill it. If it starts after hitting it, its definitely the starter motor. Start with the connections tho.

My 1996 Jeep Cherokee will not start. It has a fully charged battery. When I turn the ignition all the dash lights come on but the engine wont turn over does not even click

First remove the connectors from the battery. Make sure the battery terminals and the connectors are clean and free of corossion. Try to start the vehicle again. If nothing then I would say it is a faulty starter. By the way always replace the selonoid (bendix) when you replace the starter.

Jeep wont start checked connection and fuses

Check the battery, it sounds like it's flat. Try charging the battery to see if it recovers, but if the battery is about 3 years old or more it is likely to have failed and replacement is the only viable solution.
