Check all plug wires . One or two could be loose or burnt on the exhaust

If you red lined, you could have had a rocker arm jump off the push rod. This will kill a cylinder. A collasped lifter will to the same

When testing the compression did you squirt a little oil in the cylinder? if the compression doesn't change then you have a burnt valve, if it does change you have a broken rings on the piston

I ran my chev. 1990 pickup out of oil and now it smokes so bad. and i think my fuel pump is going out but not sure??

Sounds like you may have ruined the piston rings and this is allowing oil to seep in to the combustion chamber hence your smoke. Or if it overheated when you ran out of oil it is possible that you have a bad head gasket now. Check both your coolant and oil for signs, oil will have a white froth, or darkening of your coolant. Hope that helps you.

In all looses power while driving, turn off the key and back on and starts to run right again.

let me guess 305 and scottsdale?....could be silverado....

it sounds like your trucks fuel filter could be plugged.....when this happens you wont get enough fuel to the TBI and it wont have the necassary ponys in reserve.

"change the fuel filter" make shure that it is getting enough fuel/.....

if your ride does not get could be that your engine has lost compression.....due to worn cylinder walls and worn piston rings.

when this happens it starts eating the oil.....and will be powerless and smokey.......

try changing the fuel filter first..

....and you might try running some "RESTORE" engine treatment ......"BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE DESPERATE......IF YOU DONT FEEL CONFINDENT DONT DO IT"

hope this helps...
