Question about 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis

Car cant rev up,til it's warm

My 1993 Grand Marquis starts up fine, but if i try to drive off,it barely goes 10mph.Also starts backfiring..simply can't/wont rev up past idle speed (which runs really smooth)
..once it warms up,then it seems fine. I've changed EGR sensor,Temp sensor, and now TPS sensor.

Clean the MAF sensor with electrical cleaner then blow dry with light shop air or just let air dry.then disconnect battery for about 30 minutes to reset keep alive memory.Should take care of your problem.

Bottom falls out of idle after revving engine cold

Its probably a problem with the water temperature sensor. Also do not rev a cold engine. The engine has a "cold start sequence" which is similar to a choke. When the engine gives a cold signal, the fuel mix is made richer and the timing is changed until the engine warms.

Let the engine warm at the preset factory settings. Sometimes the O2 sensors will cancel the cold start sequence before the water is warm. Racing the engine will warm the O2 sensors too quickly.

it sounds like you may have 2 problems.
1st vacuum leaks are fairly easy to find if they change idle/accelleration,alot of times you can hear
it,the use of carberator cleaner spraying different vac hoses & gaskets while engine idles to see a difference in the way the engine idles(goes up/ down in rpm's)or using a unlit propane torch.if its a very tiny vac leak then a smoke test can be done.
your hunting to find rev/drive maybe a worn switch or linkage

Why does my 1993 mercury grand marquis backfire and cut out when I accelerate?

Try changing the fuel filter. Sounds like fuel restriction or exhaust restriction. It's also possible the timing chain could be loose especially if an high mileage engine. Fuel filter first & go from there. Good luck!
