Question about 1994 Oldsmobile 88

1 Answer

I have a 1994 Oldsmobil Royal 88, and it will not start unless the door is open and the interior light is on. When it finally starts, you have to drive it everywhere with the door open. When you shut it off, it will hardley ever start back. Sometime you can't atart it at all unless you try and try then let it set for a while and then it will finally start. Could it be the security system in the car? How could you fix it?

My interior lights have been coming on by there self at times. It is draining my battery

Sometimes the sensor on the door gets loose and thinks the door is open. When the car hits a bump the interior lights will come on. You can either use the dimmer dial or turn off the interior lights to make them not turn off when the door opens.

I have a 2003 ford tauraus and when i start the car my interior light stays on and the door ajar pops on with all the doors closed and car running and then it does it after i get out the car it goes out...

That is because the switch is faulty and is not operating when the door is closed.

Hence the interior light stays on(unless you switch it off manually) and the warning system thinks the door is still open because the switch has not been activated and therefore the open door warning appears.

Hence you need to have the door operated switch replaced.

There are 4 buttons for each door. These buttons must all be closed for the interior light(s) to go off. Open each door one by one and rapidly depress and release the buttons maybe 10-20 times each. I've seen this a million times, one button is stuck open even though the door is closed.
Bring the car to a good mechanic for gas related issues. Gas vapors explode, if the car is kept in a garage you have a real chance for an explosion.

We had this same problem. It turned out to be the computer. We had the computer replaced and it worked great for awhile but now there's something else wrong with it. Hope this helps and good luck.

A 1994 Oldsmobile Royal 88 has a problem on the security system

ok first off let me warn you i have had this problem before but let me verify something before i finish warning you . the lights are on all the time or are you saying they have to be on to start the car?

Ok now for the warning you may not like me very good when i tell you the info that took care of my problem like that the reason being is because it is VERY expensive and may not correct your problem it helps on some of the cars with the problem and some it dont
My car has that pass key cap with the chip made into the key that starts the car itself and has a security feauture that will stop the car from starting if that key is wet, dirty or blown up( exposed to static thus blowing the chip) therre is one big differance though i have noticed on mine it done exactly what yours is but when driving or if i try to start mine in neutral the security light came on .

ok i know you are saying omg what price am i looking at and I honestly dont know since olds went out of business but before they went out it was going to cost me 800 for the chip 100 for key and 50 service fee
Now there is an alternative however to check this out and see if it is your key or not
if you have a second key try using it to start it and see if it does the same thing; if it does then its not the key but the security mechanisim inside the sterring column which means a new sterring column and possibly a new airbag system ( usually a shop Job) this security feature is nice however its alot of pain because after 3 minutes it shuts the car down completely ( the car thinks its stolen )

I have a 1994 Buick Regal and both of my door handles are broken, How do I get into my car

You don't have to break the windows--you just need 45 minutes, a lot of patience, and a lot of wires, long flat objects (like yardsticks), shims, crowbars, and 2 people.

Same thing happened on my 88 Regal. We levered open the top of the doors on both sides, used shims to keep the micro-space open, and managed to "hook" the interior door handle of one door from the other side of the car using the wires. The flat long objects are necessary on the interior door handle side to help manuver the hook into place on the latch. Then, with one person pulling the wire to actuate the interior latch, the other person had to be on that side to pull open the door.

This is the SECOND time in two years I've had to replace BOTH of the interior mechanisms for the outer door handles. Is this normal, or did Buick screw up with this part?

check the battery to see if it will hold a charge, but it could be your alternator is not charging your battery properly, decreasing power that you have for your car.
