It has nothing to do with the transmission, it's your engine mount thats bad.

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

if you have a hydraulically assisted clutch, check the reservoir. it's located on the firewall in the vicinity of the brake vacuum booster. if it's low/empty, fill it. you may have air in the system which will require bleeding. what is the mileage? you may be due for a clutch. if you google, "hard shifting manual trans" you will gain more insight on the matter.

SOURCE: Gear shift stuck in park -- 2002 Honda Accord SE

Take it to the dealer to fix it for a permanent solution, but there is a quick fix when in a bind...

There is a little key space on the left side of Park, take a screwdriver and open that and then take the screwdriver and touch the pad that is about an inch down in that hole, while touching it, you can put the car into any gear.

It is your celluloid that is sticky, which sometimes happens in hot/muggy weather. You may need that replaced.

this is usaly a sing of waer on the transmission. cheak your tany oil for shiny particle or small papaer ones. any of that means your fritcion and metal clutch plates are going. and should be replaced.

Normaly this will only happen on cold starts, then it happen all the time, then it will be all gears after that, then you wont have 1 and 2 and slowly you wont have a working trany.

This is a must fix by a delar or trany shop. (trany shop will do it fast and cheeper but some times you wont get the warnenty

2003 honda odyssey will not shift out of park

I had this problem with my 2002 Odyssey. The brake lights wouldn't come on but the horn worked (rules out the fuse located under the hood, passenger side compartment). Could not get the thing out of park. I temporarily used the emergency unlock switch located on top of the steering column. (a small plastic tab can be pried out with a screwdriver and a key inserted pushes a button down releasing the shift lock. its in the manual.) The culprit was the BRAKE STOP SWITCH located above the arm of the brake pedal. VERY easy to remove and replace. And the part was at an auto part store. (fairly cheap too). The switch is a safety feature so a kid doesn't slip the van into drive accidently. Its just above the brake pedal, about the size of a C battery with a wire connected. First take the wire off by pushing the tab in on the wire connector and pulling it off the switch and tucking it away somewhere. Then get a wrench and loosen the lock nut a few turns, then unscrew the switch from the bracket. (it will be more obvious what to do when you have the new part in your hand). Then take the new switch and screw it into the hole. Push the brake down and feel on the other side of the bracket to make sure the button just clears the bracket so when you depress the button completely it is flush with the bracket face. Then get the wrench out, tighten the new lock nut and plug it back in. And hey, you fixed it. Check to see if the brake lights are working and you should be able to put it into drive by depressing the brake pedal.
