Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
The car wont start. It starts for a second but then shuts off. Recently replaced the starter and the fuel filter. Also just put in a bottle of HEET but nothing changed. When I first turn on the car and reverse to pull out of my parking space the car would shut off.I would then restart it and it would turn on and would also turn off from time to time when i was idle at a stop sign or red light. I was driving fine this past weekend. It stopped on me when I was on my way to replace the fuel filter and i would start it and it allowed me to press the accelerator once and would shut off. When I finally made it to my garage after repeatedly doing that last step it just gave out and now it wont start
Sounds like a fuel pump. check for the car losing fuel pressure and you probably needed to turn the key a few times on off on to build enough pressure to start it. it wouldn't hurt to check the fuel pressure regulator as well a good throttle body cleaning won't hurt as well.
But worst case scenerio would be a timing chain with too much slack. those motors are known for it.
