as you've changed relay it must be the switch ,do the other lights work? test the power out from light switch as may just be a loose connection if other lights ok

1992 Honda Accord, granddaughter reports that headlights blinked on & off on her way to work this morning... where do I start to find the cause?

It sounds like your problem is the Headlight relay ,under the bonnet there is a block of relays so look in the book for fuses and relays and it should tell you which one is the headlight relay remove it and obtain another one and replace it {take it as a sample}as its opens when getting to hot and then comes back on when cools down.
It may also be a short in the head light wire ,,touching and shorting on the body or a loose wire around the head light assy OR the relay could be loose fitting make sure it preesed in the holder tight.

My head lights only work on high beams. I asked the parts store about a head light relay and they said there was no listing for that switch. whats wrong?

According to Autozone you will find the Headlight relay "Under hood, driver side, front engine area, driver side of headlight housing, mounted on fenderwell"
Once you find the relay, with the engine off - turn on the lights and have someone change them from high to low and back a few times - if the relay is working you should be able to hear it clicking as it changes. If you do not hear it clicking remove the relay - take it to your parts store and they should be able to find a reaplacement

Headlights 1991 nissan pathfinder

Your year Pathfinder, as mine, had a slew of bad head light switches. The headlight switches caused a slurry of intermediate nightmares for a lot of customers. Many complaints included:
1. My head lights sometimes turn off upon switching from low to high beams.
2. My lights turn completely off when I switch to high beams.
3. My lights flicker when I switch from high to low beams and vise verse.
4. My lights sometime wont turn on at all.
5. My lights go on and off on bumpy roads.
6. My lights sometimes come on by themselves.
All of these different but similar complaints contribute to the infamous head light switch. There has even been reports of continuous dead battery's due to the head light switch turning the lights on and off intermittently and eventually deadening the battery.
The light switch is relatively easy to replace. Simply remove the the two upper and lower steering column covers, disconnect the two wiring harness bulk head connectors, a couple screws and wallah.
Remember your safety and always dissconncet your your battey upon electrical repairs.
Just last week I bought a new head light switch for about $70.00. I would highly recommend buying a new head headlight switch and not buying a junkyard special. You will likely be buying another faulty switch.
Good luck!!!!

2007 subaru outback headlight problem

Each head lamp also has it's own relay, you can rule the relay out by swapping the left head light relay with the right head light relay & see if the problem moves to the other side...The relays are also in the same under hood fuse box.
