If this is a 1985 model car, then its pretty old...

i think you are saying that you crank it,it starts, then it goes dead over and over again?

or are you saying that you think the security system has disabled your engine?i have a '85 535i and a '84 528e i've had a different problem with the 535i and have just been driving the point being that i cant remember everything about the 535i but i can look and tell you where everything is if you dont know or cant find out.

have you tried holding your foot down on the accelerator while you were trying to crank it?this shouldnt have to be done if your engine is repaired and adjusted properly, but you are just trying to see if it will run.

i dont think the security system would disable the engine like that as you say "locked" which could either mean the security system locked out the engine or that someone told you your motor is "locked up" and that cant be if it runs at all...

if it stays running with your foot on the gas a little then you will need some adjustment or some parts.probably a visit to a bmw shop.i was able to get both the 528 and 535 engine running smoothly with a flat head screwdriver and an allen wrench as well as doing some basic maintenence like changing the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and oil,air and fuel filters(there are two filters on the 5 series bmw)without taking an 85 model car to the shop and paying a bunch of money to get it fixed, but thats not for everyone.good luck.

After replacing a dead battery .It started and ran for a couple seconds the quit and now it trys to start but won't.I've checked all the fuses pertaining to the engine and Gas the are all ok

It may be that your key or immobiliser system don't recognize each other since changing the battery.

Try putting the key in the ignition and turning it on - leave it on for 30 seconds and switch off, and repeat the process a few times. Whilst in the car with the ignition on, try locking and unlocking the car using the fob/remote. Then try to start the engine.

You say you have plenty of gas - but is it getting to the engine? Can you hear the fuel pump briefly kick in when you turn the ignition to on?

Test the fuel pump. If you can, disconnect the fuel line where it enters the engine bay and turn the ignition on. Fuel should literally spray out at pressure. Though having said that, if the car was running okay before you changed the battery, it's probably not a faulty fuel pump.

If still no go, get somebody with on OBCD - a scanner - to check for error codes just to rule out something like a faulty crankshaft sensor.

You need to look at the door lock actuators, I'm guessing 1 is operating but staying on when locked and draining the battery. Try manually locking the doors and see what happens. It may come down to removing the door trims and disconnecting each lock in turn, don't forget the boot lock, until you find the culprit. Its possible you may hear the lock solenoid humming or buzzing or feels warm as its trying to lock the door unsuccessfully.

Engine won't start straight away

Your Rio should be fuel injected,it should start without touching the gas. Try this, just "bump" the starter, turn the key off, wait like 10 seconds and try it. If that helps ,replace the fuel filter

Turns over but acts like it's getting no gas

Possibly check valve in fuel pump is allowing the fuel back into the gas tank

Turn ignition key to ON so the dashboard lights are lit for 5 or 10 seconds,
then CRANK the engine.

This will allow the fuel time to get back to the engine. May take several tries.

Known problem, friend was recently told new pump would have to be installed $500+, decided a few extra seconds to start car once in a while was better option.

Torque specs 4af 1.6 16valve engine in newton meter

Tightened the bolts 60Nm and then give them an additional plus 90 deg turn and that way you won't have had to tighten them again after 1000km. - that's how stretch bolts work. I wish somebody had told me that the first time. Lucky my dad was there to help me out the second time.

It would start this morning, then now the fuel pump won't turn on and the blazer keeps rolling over when we try to start it

posibly the gas pump brushes worn out.Try taping under the gas tank with a rubber malet while turning the engine over.If engine starts change the fuel pump .dont drive like this,it might not start a second time.

When i try to start my bmw the key wont turn

The steering will have a few degrees of play, even when locked. Pull the wheel down(or up whicheer is easier) and turn the key.

The steering lock jams the key in there. If the wheel is turned to the left, turn it further to the left and turn the key.

I drove my 1985 325 bmw today no problems, parked it & now the key won't even turn & the steering wheel is locked. Is there an anti theft thing that is causing this?

No it sounds like a problem with the lock cylinder. Spray some WD40 in the key hole and move the key in and out a few times then try it. If it doesn't work you might have to replace the lock cylinder. Also you could try a different key.
