When transmission is at temperature (hot) from a stop, when I accelerate first-second gear seem fine but third gear the engine rpms rise and excelleration is very slow. This problem only happens when it has been driven. I also have a tapping soind coming from the valves, oil is o.k. do I need a tune up, can the valves be adjusted or are they self adjusting?
From the sounds of it you need to have your transmission rebuilt, there is no quick fix for a fault in one gear. As far as the tapping noise goes quite often a oil change is all that is required to cure it.

I suspect transmission oil drain back to oil pan during night. if you want to confirm. engine stop take oil level place a mark on dipstick then let it sit overnight. in the morning take oil level if it raise then oil have to charge the torque converter you hear a cavity front pump noise. when hot take oil level engine hot in park have to be at top of oil level
