Question about 2006 Chevrolet HHR

How do I get a Radio Unlock Code?

The original equipment radio in my wife's HHR was dying, so I upgraded her with a used OEM 6-disc version of the same radio and replaced it. The eBay storefront I purchased it from (legit in case you're wondering) said I may or may not need to deactivate the theft code, and lo and behold I do. Is there an easy way to go about this without going through a dealer? I know they're going to make me pay through the nose if they can. I have the VIN number of the donor vehicle, etc. if that's any help.

Thanks!

These radios vin lock to the vehicle meaning it reads the vin programmed in bcm. it sees the vin in radio is different from car. the only way to fix this is to have the radio reprogrammed this can be donr by a dealer with a tech 2 this is only way to do it there is no code to enter.

You will have to go through the Dealership for this Code. It should be FREE If you just call and Ask for the Parts Desk with Your VIN# and the Serial # off the Head unit. You will find a Lot of Codes online But, If you Enter 3 Incorrect Codes, It will lock you out and then you will have a BIGGER Problem. Be Careful! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Why does my hhr radio try to load and eject a cd disc when there isn't one inserted

There is an arm in/on the left side of the disc player. Most likely the spring inside it is broken. Leaving the arm in the pushed back position. Some times kids put coins in there also. This will cause things to happen, to include killing the radio and/or cd player.

Installed a used radio from a wrecking yard into our Chevy HHR, now the display says 'locked', how do we unlock it?

The newer ('03 and newer for example) factory radios are a different animal.

There is no actual "security code" in the radio as in past model years. The newer theft deterrent system utilizes the class 2 serial data to determine if the radio is in the appropriate vehicle...in other words it compares the VIN it has stored in it's memory with the VIN of the other modules (body control and PCM) in the vehicle to "check" to see that it's in the correct vehicle.

Each time the radio receives the "run" power mode message, it compares the VIN information it has stored to the VIN information received from a module on the class 2 serial data circuit responsible for transmitting that information. If a mis-match occurs, the radio display will indicate to the user the radio is locked. Once this takes place the radio will not respond to any buttons/commands and becomes inoperative. But the dealer can reestablish the radio into a different vehicle with a scanner.

Thank you for using fixya and your going to have to take it to the dealer and have them reprogram the radio to match the HHR vin number.

I just purchased a 1996 BMW Z3 Roadster for my wife for our anniversary. The radio is locked, I have gone to the local BMW dealer now three times and they still can not help me. The original radio unlock...

Normally the dealer just needs to know the serial and it will give you the code in less than a minute. If the code they gave you doesn't work then the radio unit  has been modified and the only ones that know what was modified  are the ones that did it.
Just bite the bullet and get a new radio - one with an iPod hookup , your wife will appreciate that.

Honda radio codes I have just bought a used Honda CR-V in the Caribbean, and need to change a few things, removed battery and cd player died. I cannot find the sticker anywhere with the code and do not...

Don't post your s/n & vin online!!

FREE and EASY methods to get your Honda radio UNLOCK CODE. (Dealerships usually charge)

Assuming you don't have the Anti-Theft Code and Serial Number that is found on the credit card sized Anti-Theft Radio Identification Card that comes with the vehicle at the time of purchase and is usually found in the glove compartment....

You have FREE options to retrieve that code by phone or on the internet BUT, the RADIO SERIAL NUMBER is REQUIRED (no matter what). (see bottom about removing ERROR E3)

***IF your Honda was made BEFORE 2001 the serial number MAY not be accessible without removing the radio from the vehicle.***

* TO GET THE SERIAL NUMBER (so that you can get the unlock code)

1. Get something to write with and on (you'll need it to write down the serial number)
2. Put the ingnition key in and turn it until your able to turn your radio on (accessories position).
3. Then turn your radio OFF by it's knob/button (but leave the ingition key in place).
4. Hold down the preset buttons 1 and 6 at the same time.
5. Turn the radio on while pressing down both the 1 and 6 buttons.(***IF your Honda doesn't have preset buttons on the radio then hold down the top part of the 'Seek/Skip' button AND the top part of the 'Change Disk' button instead.*** )
6. Write down the 4 numbers you see first and then 4 more that display. These eight numbers are the SERIAL NUMBER. This is NOT your CODE.
7. Make sure your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is handy to get the unlock code. (can be found on your insurance card, driver's side door jam, small plate on dashboard by registration and inspection stickers, etc)

* TO GET THE UNLOCK CODE (using the radio Serial Number and VIN)

---Internet option:

1. Go to https://radio-navicode.honda.com/ (YES, it's run BY HONDA and IT'S FREE)
2. Follow on screen instructions (Serial Number and VIN required)
3. Type in the 5 digit code into your radio. This will unlock the radio and return it to a functional state.

-OR-

---Telephone option:

1. Call American Honda Customer Relations (800) 999-1009
2. When the automated message starts 'Press 3' for 'Radio and Navigation Codes'.
3. Tell the Customer Service Agent you need your radio code. (They will ask for your name, your radio's serial number, VIN, etc)
4. When they give you your radio unlock code--WRITE IT DOWN and KEEP IT SAFE!
5. Type in the 5 digit code into your radio. This will unlock the radio and return it to a functional state.

* REMOVING ERROR E3

****If you entered too many wrong codes and got an ERROR E3 message displaying you'll need to do an additional step for even the correct unlock code to work.****

Disconnect your negative battery terminal (or pull the radio fuse out if that's easier for you) for 30 seconds then reconnect it and then the radio will say "CODE" again and you can put in your correct unlock code.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what happened to begin with?

If the power from your battery to the Honda radio is interrupted the Anti-Theft feature kicks in, the radio is rendered inoperable and the screen reads 'CODE'. You must enter in the Anti-Theft Radio Unlock Code (usually 5 digits) to make it operational again. You know that much by now.
