2001 Chevrolet Impala-gears changing hard

I have a 2001 Chevrolet impala w/ approx 110k miles on it. It has rarely ever given any troubles but for a few weeks now on occasion the gears are changing hard. First gear is changing the hardest, 2nd & 3rd are also changing hard but not as hard as first. The service engine soon light is NOT coming on. The transmission fluid is where it should be, my dad put a sensor on it last week & still having the issue. He doesn't think it needs a new transmission since it is not doing it more often. So far it is only doing it once a week & only after the vehicle has been driven about 30 minutes or more. Any suggestions?

Dont listen to this guy never flush your transmission thats a quick way to kill it. do a pan drop fluid filter change. refill with dexron 6. but ill tell u now ur problem is most likely the PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID in your transmission. may or may not throw a CEL. causes harsh shifting and slipping etc very common on the 4t65e trans. can happen any time and usually symptoms most obvious when engine reaches operating temp

You might Try a Tranny Flush and Fill and a New Tranny Filter. Usually a Clogged Filter will cause the Hard Shifting Problem as Stated Above. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

That's Cool. Well, Since you have already replaced the Module on the Tranny, That cannot be the Problem. The only other thing that you can do is to Install an Aftermarket Shift Kit OR Have a GM Dealership Check the Computer. It could be that the Computer needs to be Recalibrated to get the Correct Shift Pattern Cleared up. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

2001 impala 3.9 L stalls any gear position when it chooses no error codes. Hard start after failure.

2001 doesn't have a 3.9. Doesn't matter. Replace the transmission or rebuild it. Don't waste time and money to have certain parts fixed.

2001 Chevrolet impala shifts hard

If you get it checked on the scanner chances are you will have a P1811 set in history. When this code sets it automatically turns pressure in the trans to max causing a hard shift. If your vehicle has low miles I would suggest the valve body and pc solenoid be replaced along with the trans filter.Have the filter changed first and inspect for debris in the pan.If debris is found.REBUILD the trans because if you just replace th solenoid and valve body it WILL happen again and the valve body/solenoid replacement is not cheap.

I still believe its the torque converter. Sounds like its not building up torque, without torque you can't have speed. Sorry I took so long to get back had major sign on problems.

2001 impala shifts hard both up and down. also hesitates and shutters then clunks into gear when taking off from a stop.

sounds like internal trans. failure.. will need pan removed and inspected for debris. and more than likely an internal repair, or replacement performed

Low to no oil in 2002 Impala. No even 3000 miles.

If you are close to 3000 miles, change oil. Low oil will overheat and change chemically. While under there, take a look around and see where or if oil is leaking anywhere (should not be hard to find) After changing, run and check again while running. Providing you aren't getting a lot of smoke out the back, (burning it) likely you will find a leak, then fix it!
good luck
