There is a Sending unit for the Fuel Guage that you may want to Change before you Rip the Dash Out. I am not Totally sure where it is at on the Dodge But, On Chevy it is Mounted on the Sterring Column Shaft under the Dash. You may want to get a Chilton or Haynes Manual to Locate the Unit Before you start. You can get these Books at your Library or at their Websites. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

First answer have a compression test done to determine the condition of the rings and cylinder bores. If the compression is too low consider an exchange engine as the cost to rebuild yours will be about the same but with a the warranty. take the wire to the temperature sender unit and earth it out on the head . Turn on the ignition and see if the gauge goes to very hot . If so replace the sender unit. If not put a multimeter on the wire and see if there is voltage there . If not check fuse and wiring .. If still ok replace gauge.. Do the same idea for the fuel gauge

Some gages dont work

03 to 06 gauge problems on all gm truck and suvs. sometimes the dealers can fix but most likely the cluster needs replaced. There are a lot of business' out there that rebuild these gauge clusters.

Dash gauges to include fuel gauge, speedometer, rpm gauge working intermittanly. All service lights work

GM had gauge cluster problems from 2000-2005. Bad stepper motors. On those units you have to replace the cluster or rebuild it with new stepper motors. Dealership can fix for around $150.00

Fuel gauge isn't working properly

Fuel pick up and gauge sender is all in one assembly inside the fuel tank.

Clusters on these vehicles go bad too.

With fuel level low, pull lower seat swab out.....up.....forward..I don't remember right now exactly...to expose the round cover plate over the fuel sender assembly.

Remove three Phillips screws and lift away cover.

Remove two fuel lines from cover on tank and electrical plug. Remove assembly from tank. With ignition on, move float arm up and down slowly and observe fuel gauge. If guage does not move you then need to check sensor resistance with a DVOM .

Check for resistance scaling on two wires from float arm resistance potentiometer. If NO...new float required. If YES...new cluster required.

Go to http://www.alldatadiy.com/ for further information.

FYI. The fuel pick up assembly is two piece spring loaded . To seal the collapsible pick up pipe from sucking air when fuel level is low, it has a small 'O' ring in the pipe. Make sure this is tight and pipe slides in and out smoothly.

If it turns out the cluster is faulty, you cannot swap in a used one, the Immobilizer code in the cluster will not match the Engine Start code in the ECU. If you do use a used one.......Engine will start and die one second later....this is why we **** out the code from old cluster and re install it in replacement cluster.

If you have your cluster fixed, it will not need coding.

You need a VAG scanner to do this coding transfere .

Google ' BBA' for company that rebuilds those clusters.

Fuel gage not working. Only a smsll light seen. Does the fuel pump need changing?

As long as the car is running fine it's safe to say the fuel pump does not need to be replaced. However the fuel tank sending unit may need to be replaced assuming the fuel gauge itself isn't at fault. First check your owners manual if available for your fuse block info and check fuses then I'd look into the sending unit. Let me know if you need help with that

Fuel gauge dont work i put a new fuel pump in it and it still do'nt work 1997 blazer

Was the wire harness replaced from the fuel sending unit to the frame, it's a good practice to replace the wire harness when the sending unit is replaced. The wires are know to break and cause sending unit issues from weak fuel pressure to faulty gas gauges.
The other possibility would be a faulty connection to the stepper motor in the gauge it self or just a faulty stepper motor that would need to be replaced. You can do a search on Ebay for stepper motors for your fuel gauge which runs for around $15.00 which is much better then $400.00 for a new cluster if it is and bad fuel gauge stepper motor.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck.

My gauges dnt work properly

There is no "reset" procedure.
Most all instrument cluster problems are service with an advanced exchange unit that is ordered specificly for your vehicle. Then yours is sent in for a rebuild. This is a common issue for GM.
I hope this helps.
