Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

1997 Grand Am not starting

I noticed a day before it wouldn't start the water light came on but I added a few cups of water and the car never got hotter then it normally runs. The water light stayed on. I drove the car 3 times around 6 miles each trip. I then went to start it about 6 hours later and it would just turn over and not start. The next day when i tried to start it it backfired once then would just turnover. The car is getting fire and gas. I had a timing chain and gears put on it about 7 months ago. Do you think it would be the timing chain and gears or something else? Thanks

It could be that your oil or coolant level is still low. When your oil or cooant level is low, your computer senses that and either shuts the fuel pump off or sets limits to it's operation.

When I fill my tank full, my 97 plymouth grand voyager starts up but then shuts down after a few seconds

My name is Tom and I am here to help.

There is no connection between filling the car with fas and the engine dieing. It is possible you got gas with water rust in it. NOTE: This is a lot less likely with gas having 10% ethanol.

Try and use starting fluid and let me know it this pulls the gas up.
If not try adding 4 cans of gas additive to mix the water and gas. Let me know if this works. If not, I have a couple of other ideas.

How can i tell if i blew a head gasket or if its something else. I noticed that my car was leaking alot of fluid, i stopped by the nearest gas station and added water. The gauage did not move. I figured if...

OK you will need to remove all the spark plugs and see if water is on them. at that time you can spend the engine over to see if any water is in the cylinders. this works best if you have pressure on the radiator. you can buy a pressure tester at your local parts store

2005 grand cherokee squealing and loss of coolant

Check belt tension, squeeling is most likely due to belt slippage. Have you noticed any fluid leaking from under your Jeep? Coolant level drop could be from bad water pump, when the pump needs replacing, water flows out of a "weep hole". It could be leaking onto your belt also, causing it to squeel

1997 cherokee sport will not start after overheating

If a car dies from overheating its not good. Quick check; pull the oil stick and see if the oil seems milky. Mess with it enough it will start. More than likely it has a blowed head gasket. You will see water out the exhaust while running. Good luck
