Question about 1996 GMC Jimmy

1996 Jimmy 4X4

Hello

When I turn on the 4x4 it sounds like that it is engaging but it is not. I have observed the transfer case sliding in to place, but I still don't have 4x4. Any suggestions?

The front diff is most likely not engaging. I believe it is a vacuum operated actuator that puts it into gear. Check this out first. The diaphram may have a leak, or the source of vacuum is not there.

I have a 98 gmc jimmy the 4x4 is not working it has the push button on the dash and when you put it in 4x4 the lights work but it dont go into 4x4

Sounds like the transfer case motor is going out or bad, i know the trucks have a 4x4 engagement motor on the front differential which engages the front axles. i am not sure how yours is setup, you will have one or the other.

1994 jimmy push button 4x4 wont engage

Could be the servo on the front diff not activating. Could be a power prob or failed unit.

NO 4X4, TRANSFER CASE ENGAGES BUT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL NOT WORKING

There is a vacuum line that goes to the transfer case.if this line is ruptured it will not engage the 4wd.Next there is a switch on the t-case that may not be working. In 4wd it supllies vacuum to the 4wd actuator that is under the battery tray.next the applied vacuum pulls the cable engaging the frontaxle.

No 4x4 when i push the switch on my 97 blazer

I have had this problem before but all I had to do was disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes and it fixed itself, maybe just a coincidence but it is fixed now.

4wd high range does not lite or engage

I had the same problem with my 98 sierra 4x4. Turned out that the electrical activator on the transfer case was not working. It will still go into 4 low but not 4 high. Replace the electrical switch on the transfer case and it should work again.
