Question about 1999 Cadillac Seville
When I start my car my sunroof now opens to 'vent' position and the switch will not operate it. After a few minutes and restarting the car a few times the switch works to get the roof to close - when the switch is working it does not 'stop' at the closed position but rather continues into the vent position. Once I get the roof closed it seems fine - then I start the car and it opens to 'vent' and the process starts over. Any suggestions?

4.6 the twocrankshaft position sensors are located on the front of the block just above and to the left of the oil filter. not hard to replace.

Can't say for sure about this particular model, but most vehicles with sunroofs have a manual crank for situations like this. Generally it is located forward of the sunroof on the roof of the interior of the car, sometimes under a panel or interior light. This at least will get the roof closed until the problem can be fixed. It may also allow the sun roof to realign itself and help the electric crank to start working again.

maybe the water pump wasnt the problem to begin with. if the engine temperature only goes up when you stop the car then most likely it is the FANS that are not engaging to cool the radiator which is a problem with the fan sensor, computer that controls the fans, relay/fuse. I had the same problem on my 1999 cady STS coming back from my vacation. the engine temperature would be normal only when I drove the car above 70km/hr because the air passing through the front of the car would cool the radiator. when I slowed down the fans wouldnt start and no air was passing through to cool the rad, hence the engine temperature would start to go to HOT. good luck.

The identification of any stored DTCs and their status
The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
When no DTCs ( diagnostic trouble codes ) are present, begin symptom diagnosis by reviewing the Sunroof Description and Operation . Reviewing the Description and Operation information will help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the Description and Operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation. Refer to Symptoms - Roof in order to identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Important: If the suspected cause of an inoperative sunroof is a power interruption to the sunroof module, the sunroof must be re-initialized. Refer to Sunroof Motor/Actuator Synchronization .
Important: The following must be completed before using the symptom tables.
The control module(s) can communicate via the serial data link.
Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
Power Sunroof Inoperative
Retained Accessory Power (RAP) On After Timeout in Retained Accessory Power, if the power sunroof should operate longer than 20 minutes after the ignition has been turned OFF
This information is right out of GMC service repair manual !
Sunroof Motor/Actuator Synchronization
Synchronization will be necessary anytime the sunroof module battery positive voltage circuit is interrupted. The sunroof module will be synchronized when the controller learns the full vent position. The sunroof system will ignore any open request until the system has been synchronized.
