Previously changed alt. and removed radiator hose. does coolant system need bled?

No the coolant system does not have to be bled

    the water pump may not be any good. if its not pumping water the car is going to shut down to keep damage down .have the water pump checked or changed i believe thats the root of your problem

    take the radiator ap off and start the car see if there is alot of movement in the water in the radiator.even then you wont know for sure but usually if a water pump goes bad or is going bad you wont have alot of movement in the water

    on your particular car im not sure but i know its behind the cooling fan on the motor. they are hard to get to and harder to change but id get a chiltons manual and follow the steps it gives you for removing the water pump and installing a new one. would you please rate my advice thanks alot

How do you flush?


The cooling system?
Loosen the bottom rubber radiator hose and let the coolant run out.

Buy a can of coolant system flush. Reconnect the bottom radiator hose, pour the can of coolant flush in and top up with plain water. Drive the car for about 10 minutes until the engine is warm.

Then remove the bottom radiator hose and let the water run out.
Reconnect the bottom hose and fill the cooling system with coolant/water mix. Run the engine for 5 minutes and then check the coolant level

How do I bleed the cooling system?


Turn the heat control to max and remove radiator cap - add coolant as much as possible. Make sure overflow container is filled to correct level - then Start car and run - after the thermostat opens water level may go down some - keep adding coolant till it is totally full. Turn engine off and put radiator cap back on tight.

Where is the thermstat at in a 1998 ford taurus?


I'm guessing you can't find it because it's in a separate housing or located under the lower battery tray in the housing (depending on model of engine). Even though this is specific for 1998; I believe it's the same for 1996-1999 Taurus's. I have access to illustrations, but only .gif and/or .bmp extensions were available which would not copy here. If you need these, I will try an extension change to .jpg. Good luck, this should be enough info. It is helpful to include the engine size in question, for future reference...

Removal

Drain the engine cooling system so that the engine coolant level is below the water thermostat (8575) as described.
2.Disconnect the upper radiator hose (8260) from the water hose connection (8592) .
3.Remove the three water inlet connection retaining bolts. Remove the water hose connection .
4.Remove the gasket and water thermostat from the water hose connection . Do not reuse gasket.
Installation
1.Install the water thermostat , gasket and water hose connection as illustrated.
2.Install and alternately tighten the retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 10-14 Nm (89-124 lb-in).
3.Connect the upper radiator hose to the water hose connection .
4.Fill the engine cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of Premium Engine Coolant E2FZ-19549-AA (green), (in Oregon, F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-10), or Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant F6AZ-19544-AA (orange), or DEX-COOL coolant, or a coolant meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D and water, as described under Cooling System, Draining, Filling and Bleeding procedure.
5.Start the engine and check all hoses and connections for leaks. Allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens.
6.Stop the engine. Top off degas bottle as required to maintain minimum cold fill level.

Removal

Drain the engine cooling system so that the engine coolant level is below the water thermostat ; refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding in this section.
2.Raise vehicle on hoist.
3.Disconnect the lower radiator hose (8286) from the water inlet connection.
4.Remove the two water inlet connection retaining bolts. Remove the water inlet connection.
5.Remove the O-ring seal and water thermostat from the water thermostat housing. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
6.If required, remove water thermostat housing retaining bolts, water thermostat housing and O-ring from lower radiator hose tube. Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.

Installation
1.Install the water thermostat , O-ring, water thermostat housing (if removed) as shown.
2.Install and alternately tighten the retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in).
3.Connect the lower radiator hose to the water inlet connection.
4.Lower vehicle.
5.Fill the engine cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of Premium Engine Coolant E2FZ-19549-AA (green), (in Oregon, F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-10), or Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant F6AZ-19544-AA (orange), or DEX-COOL coolant, or a coolant meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D and water; refer to Cooling System, Draining, Filling and Bleeding in this section.
6.Start the engine and check all hoses and connections for leaks. Allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens.

Removal

3.Remove power distribution box.
4.Remove battery tray.
5.Disconnect upper radiator hose and position out of the way.
6.Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the water inlet connection (8K528) .
7.Remove the two retaining bolts. Remove the water inlet connection .
8.Remove the O-ring seal and water thermostat from the water pump (8501) . Inspect O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.

Thermostat

Installation
1.Install the water thermostat , O-rings and water inlet connection as illustrated.
2.Install and alternately tighten the retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in).
3.Connect the lower radiator hose to the water inlet connection .
4.Install upper radiator hose . Position spring clamp securely.
5.Install battery tray.
6.Install power distribution box.
7.Install battery.
8.Fill the engine cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of Premium Engine Coolant E2FZ-19549-AA (green), (in Oregon, F5FZ-19549-CC, in Canada, Motorcraft CXC-10), or Ford Extended Life Engine Coolant F6AZ-19544-AA (orange), or DEX-COOL coolant, or a coolant meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D and water; refer to Cooling System, Draining, Filling and Bleeding in this section.
9.Start the engine and check all hoses and connections for leaks. Allow the engine to warm up so that the water thermostat opens.

How do i put water in my radiator?


you need to replace thermostat and radiator cap.look under hood around engine compartment.look for a radiator cap near radiator,add 50/50 antifreeze and water to coolant system to bring up boiling point.pure water will cause engine run hotter because water evaporate away,remove radiator pour coolant in the radiator until coolant stop dropping in the radiator now some vechicle pour coolant in the coolant overflow jug,pour coolant until coolant level stop dropping and the coolant level stay at cold full mark.start engie let idle few minutes, watch coolant level in radiator if coolant start dropping add more coolant, when coolant level stop dropping put radiator cap back on let engine idle until both top radaitor hose and bottom coolant hose get warm turn off engine wait until it get cool then take a large rag slightly open radiator just a litle at a time to keep from getting scaled.once radiator remove add more coolant if low,put radiator cap back on start the engine let it idle watch the temp gauge if temperature gauge going hot zone stop engine wait until cool then add more coolant,keep doing this until engine stop overheating going into hot zone and coolant level stop dropping,make the coolant overflow jug coolant level stay at full cold mark, dont let jug run empty if so air will get in the coolant system causing engine to overheat.

Have replaced theromastat, radiator only blows out cool air not warm


Have you bled the system. If not when the engine is cool, remove the radiator cap and run the car until the thermostat opens.( Be sure you have the heater controls set to hot and the fan running so you can feel the air temp.) You can tell when this happens because the coolant level drops noticably. Add more coolant until the level is correct. Also run the car at a higher RPM when you are doing this to get the fluid circulating. Put the cap back on and feel the heat at the defrosters. Keep the RPMs up and the air should get warmer indicating the system is bled.

  • Turn off the engine as soon as you suspect a leak, to prevent the engine from overheating.
  • 2 Determine which radiator hose is leaking and exactly where the leak is coming from by looking for wetness.
  • 3 Purchase 1 gallon of antifreeze and the correct replacement radiator hose from your local auto-parts store or dealer. (Radiator hoses are not interchangeable. They come in specific sizes and shapes for your particular car model.)
  • 4 Wait for the engine to cool down for at least 20 minutes, before beginning any work on the cooling system.
  • 5 Place a large pan or wide bucket on the ground under the hose to catch the coolant.
  • 6 Use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps at both ends of the hose you are replacing.
  • 7 Remove the radiator hose by twisting and pulling where it connects to the radiator and engine. If the hose won't budge, use a utility knife to cut it off the fittings.
  • 8 Remove the hose clamps from the old radiator hose and slide them onto the new hose.
  • 9 Put the new radiator hose on. Spray the inside of the hose ends with WD-40 if the hose is hard to get on. Tighten the hose clamps.
  • 10 Refill the radiator and the coolant reservoir with a 50-50 mixture of water and antifreeze.
  • 11 "Burp the cooling system" by running the engine with the radiator cap off until the engine warms up. Keep the engine running until both the upper and lower radiator hoses feel warm (this indicates that the thermostat is open and the coolant is flowing through the entire system). Burping the cooling system allows any air bubbles to escape. Add coolant to the radiator as needed.
  • 12 Look for leaks. Inspect around the hose clamps for dampness. Tighten the hose clamps if there is any wetness.
  • 13 Put the radiator cap back on.
  • 14 Check the coolant level after driving, to ensure there are no leaks

    How to change radiator 1998 oldmobile intrigue


    Hope this helps you. Here are the basics. There are many problems you may run up against (frozen bolts, stubborn or cracked hoses, rusted clamps, etc)that may need to be fixed or replaced before proceeding: SHut off engine, allow to cool completely. Disconnect the cooling fan, remove negative battery terminal connection. Drain radiator by opening draincock and/or removing lower radiator hose, collecting coolant in a drain pan. Do not let it go onto the ground - bad for environment! Open top radiator hose to allow remainder of coolant to flow out. A few quarts of coolant will remain in the engine block. You will want to totally flush and refill AFTER replacing the radiator to get all the crud out of the system. Unbolt radiator and disconnect any other items still attached (transmission cooler, temp sensor wires, etc.). Remove radiator and replace with new, reattaching all items removed from old radiator. Inspect other items and possibly replace suspects. Reattach hoses and make sure the clamps are tightened without pinching hoses excessively. Do a flush job with water/radiator flush, making sure the water runs clear out the draincock. Instructions for flushing the cooling system are usually printed on the radiator flush bottle. Be sure the heater is on and the engine warms up completely to open the thermostat. SHut off engine and drain as much water as will leave. Fill with 50% coolant mix (Dexcool or equivalent). Estimate water remaining in the engine and add 100% coolant to balance. COmplete fill with 50% mix. Remove air by running engine until warmed with the radiator cap off, adding coolant mix along the way.

    Need to know engine size. Normally filling the cooling system requires a cold engine and slowly adding coolant untill full. Run engine till warm and recheck coolant level when engine cools. Add coolant if needed and rewarm. Recheck level . On some engines this may require this operation a few times

    Replaced topr radiatior hose on 200 9-5 saab now engine overheats, engine light on. Air does not work as well


    a couple of things....change out the thermostat,and check to see if you have water dripping from your water pump.if you do then change out your water pump.and check if both top and bottom hoses are getting hot if they are then that means water is circulating through your engine which is a good thing.
