Wont shut off when i turn the key --the key just spins around and around so i removed the key cylinder and bought another one and it still doesnt turn car off now i disconected battery to shut power o

did you replace with OEM part? and the next thing to replace should be the ignition switch and usually disconnecting the battery wont kill them as they have a special system, have autozone check the charging system and usually one would replace ignition switch and cylinder with a run-on issue make sure the charge system is in check first then replace ignition switch module I can bet money that is the culprit how many miles near 220k? hope this helps I would even gammble forget about the charge system check up as well that is how faurly certain I am it is the switch which I would have replaced before the cylinder.. but that is the way I think..

I need to replace the ignition switch on a 1999 ford taurus without the key

very simple, insert key in the ignition. Then insert a small phillips head screw driver in the middle hole underneath the steering column. You should feel the screwdriver head hit a hole.Maintain pressure on the screwdriver. Turn the key to the on postion(without starting the vehicle). You should be able to pull the igntion switch out with the key.

Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

I 'v been this roblems over 3 years and spent so much money to fix it. My 1999 Oldsmobile Alero wont start with security theft light flashing. I have to wait for 10 minutes and then if i lucky it may...

SOUND LIKE THE THEFT SECURITY PROBLEMS. MOST OF THE TIME.THE IGNITION KEYS OR IGNITION SWITCH KEY LOCK CYLINDER WORN WHERE THE BCM AND PCM DONT RECOGNIZE KEY OR SWITCH SIGNAL.SO THE BCM AND PCM WILL GO IN THEFT SECURITY MODE.THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO FIX.BECAUSE IF THE KEYS , IGNITION SWITCH AND LOCK CYLINDER AND BCM HAS TO REPLACED.THEY WILL HAVE TO BE REPROGRAM USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. NOT A HOME FIX.YOU WILL NEED TO GET FIX SOON AS POSSIBLE.BECAUSE FAULTY SECURITY THEFT CODE WILL SHUT DOWN VECHICLE FUEL SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING OR IT WILL GET TO A POINT WHERE CAR WONT START NO MORE.THIS FIX WILL COST ABOUT $600.00.

Wont start with the key

the key tumbler. where you insert the key is different from your ignition switch. they are connected by a rod that runs down the top of your stearing column. the switch might be out of adjustment or bad. it is rectanguler in shape with a aluminum base and white plastic top that the wireing harness plugs into. there is a small bolt on each end that can be loosened for up and down adjustment or removed to replace. if you must replace remove the two bolts that hold the stearing column up and let it hang. this will give you more room to work. also be carefull not to damage the connecter retainer.

Key wont pull out with the batery hooked up

this is a safety feature so that someone cant just run up to your car, turn the engine off and yank the key out. Usually there are 2 way to remove the key..

1.) There is a switch under the ignition or thereabout which you need to hold down as you shut the engine off and pull the key out. After which you can release the switch..

2.) turn the engine off as well as the ignition (all the dash lights go off) rock the stearing left and right while you pull the key out. This locks the stearing and releases the key.

Repair ignition in a 1996 Ford Taurus

You need to replace the ignition lock cylinder and/or the ignition switch actuator parts that turn the electrical switch off,on,start when the key is turned, the electrical part of the ignition is remote from the lock cylinder, it is operated by a gears and a rod.
