Question about 2004 Ford F150

1 Answer

Strange starting issue

Just went out to start my truck and am having a starting problem I can't figure out.

It's a 2004 F-150 xlt with ~80K miles

I jump in, turn the key, hear a thump and then nothing. Try again, and I notice the airbag light blinking is the only light on the dash and all my needles are shaking on their low peg irradically. When I get out of the truck I hear a clicking sound coming from around the fuel pump. Mind you the key is in my hand at this point. When I put the brake on, the clicking stops, whether the key is in the ignition or not.

I disconnected the battery and some sparks flew when I pulled the lead. This has me thinking there is some draw on the battery with the lights off and key out. I checked the voltage and got 12.9V (I know I need a load test to tell me anything definitive about the battery, but it's all I have at my house). My other ride is a motorcycle, which is a little difficult to strap a battery to in order to get to the parts store for the load test.

The clicking has me thinking/hoping it's just the battery, but I've never had my dash go crazy like it's doing, and why the clicking stops when I put the brake on is keeping me wondering.

Any ideas?

I JUST DROVE MY TRUCK FROM WORK, I WENT INTO A STORE, CAME OUT AND MY TRUCK WOULD NOT START. I ACT JUST LIKE MY BATTERY HAD WENT DEAD. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY IT WOULD MAKE A CLICK THEN KNOTHING. I TRIED TO GET A JUMP START AND IT WOULD BUMP ONCE AND START CLICKING. THE FUNNY THING IS WHEN I TOOK MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION I COULD HEAR FUNNY NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUM. AND AT ONE TIME I COULD HEAR NOISES UNDER MY GLOVE BOX. AFTER MESSING WITH IT FOR 20 MIN I DECIDED TO LEAVE IT UNTIL TOMORROW MOURNING.2/7/09

Definitly the battery or battery connections, I recommend the best, most expensive battery like for a Ford Diesel. It will be worht the money

Car sort of jerks while driving and the engine light flashed then went off twice.

P0304 states: Cylinder #4 misfire
Check spark plug
Check resistance of plug wire. Should be between 6K and 8K Ohms
Check injector with a noid light.
P0316 :Misfire detected on start-up (first 1000 revolutions)

if you have many miles(80K or more) on the vehicle just save time and money now and do a tune up (all plugs and wires).

How to replace pressure control solenoid p2616 toyota matrix 2007

You may not have to replace it yourself. I hope your car is under 80,000-100,000 miles there was a recall issued for that problem.
P2716 is caused by a bad Ecm, (engine control module,) Toyota has an upgraded ECM for this and are warrantying these for 8 years or 80k miles, Take it to the dealer and have them replace it for you, there should be no charge if the vehicle is under 80k miles according to service bulletin (41554a).

step no 1 is to take the car to nearest auto electrician to check the onboard computer which will give the immediate fault to rectify.....thats where i would start.

2002 Ford Escape XLT OD light blinking - am told it may be a torque converter cellunoid - only has 80K on it & I bought it new! Any ideas? How expensive is the fix? Would it help to change the...

The Trans fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles or two years.
Changing any fluid on a vehicle is never a fix for anything, just preventative maintenance.
You should have done the Power Steering Fluid, Trans Fluid,Brake Fluid,Etc a couple of times, before getting to 80K.

Also I would hope you changed the spark plugs buy at least 60K.

You may have a TCC Solenoid going bad,but the engages the torque converter clutch.

Is it shifting into OD? Most likely you have a solenoid issue, but need to find out which one. Most fords have a solenoid pack in the trans, with all of them in one unit. Not sure on yours.

The only way it will be expensive, is if you go to a dealer or get pitched some story by a shop, not able to diagnose, what is most likely a simple fix.

the low traction light would not be related to the car not starting. you may have a faulty sensor or your tires may have lost traction.

Battery dead after a day (repeatedly.....)

Take your truck to your local Auto Zone and aske them to test your alteranter. They will do this at no charge. If you can "jump" it and it starts ok, I bet the alt is bad. Check it out, costs nothing but your time!
