Renault scenic key is old

I have an 1997 renault scenic the key is gone old you normally have to click the key twice for the car to start but it will not work at all now. Is there a way of getting my car to start without having to spend a fortune on a new key

Have you tried a new battery in the key fob? If so
are you any good with a soldering iron? The little button has come off the circuit board in the key, but it is very easy to solder back on. If you cant do it, just take it to a little electrical repair shop and explain the button needs soldered back on. The key is easily dismantled

It usually takes me 10 mins to fix this fault, and no new key needed.

Renault scenic 05 auto clicking noise from engine when I try to start it is this a stuck starter or something else if so where is it ? Thanks

Sounds like the battery has low charge or is defective. The clicking is the starter solenoid, which commonly happens with low voltage.

Hey,

You can try another battery if you have one, or take the battery to be tested somewhere to see if its at fault

Thanks,

Renault Grand scenic -red light , clicking noise

I would have a load test done on the battery to determine if it is faulty ( saves on a new battery if the fault is in the terminals or else where.)

Hi... I have a 2001 renault scenic 1.6 sport. I have been having problems with starting, it starts fine every morning, it just seems to happen after it has been run! It does not happen every time just...

Hi Roy

It could be many things causing this problem but we're going to start with the most common on Renault's testing the LED light on your instrument panel, when you install your key to start if it's flashing rapidly then the problem is with the immobilizer.

Suggestion number two the engine TDC sensor or in other terms the engine speed sensor also known as flywheel sensor which can be found under the airbox filter, mounted to the gearbox in between gearbox and engine, when the problem occurs place your hand and try to move the connector that is connected to the TDC and then try to start the engine normally it's a connector problem and not the actual sensor.
If this does not solve your problem I have further suggestions.

This being a diesel, lack of compression is your worst enemy. These symptoms sound like a blown head gasket. Check your coolant for signs of oil, and check your oil for signs of coolant. (oil will be milky looking) Also indicative of a head gasket problem is an oil or coolant leak from the engine as well. If you see no evidence of the above, have a compression test done, and it should show up.

if the red light flashes on the dash its going to be an immobiliser fault, normally it is the key that is at fault, the keys are pricey about £80 plus programmimg, but you can manually override the immobiliser on the early scenics, just pop into your renault dealer and ask for your immobilser code, normally charge a tenner or so, and ask if someone can show you how to put it in.
