Question about 1996 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

My nissan is just acting up

My 96 Nissan is working fine when it frist starts up and when it is cold, but when it starts to warm up I apply any gas to go at a light or stop sign, it sputters and almost dies, but then it catches hard and goes on. If I am going on a long trip she misses the entire time and when I stop you can smell gas.. I took it to a mechanic and he said it was one of my 6 engine coals going out but can't tell which one. Do you have any idea what it is?

Check the fuel pressure on it. Sounds like fuel pump might be getting weak. Or the ignition control module is going out

2000 Nissan Sentra 1.8L. High mileage (330,000 plus miles). May take 5min or longer to start cold- acts like it's not firing one or more cylinders. Once it starts there's a big cloud like it was flooded....

Sounds like either it has a bad valve, or worn rings. With the mileage, I would suspect it's just plain getting worn out, when the engine warms up it internal tolerances are better then cold.

'96 NISSAN ALTIMA: HARD TO START WHEN COLD, BUT STARTS GOOD WHEN AT RUNNING TEMP.

This could be a old/dead/dieing battery. It's easier for a starter to turn a motor that has already warmed up because the motors oil is very smooth at operating temperature. When the vehicle is cold it will be much thicker thus making it much harder for the starter to turn over the motor. Thanks for asking! Try replacing your battery.

Acceleration is shady ... Gears act funny...

i would start by checking the mass air flow sensor or put a scan tool and checking live data.long trim and short trim fuel. may need a dealerfor that.

Nissan Altima no cool air blowing or hot air blowing

Hi!
It appears we have an Air lock scenario and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.
