Question about 1996 Lincoln Town Car

Heatr on 96 town car

I have flushed the core and replaced the thermostat because I was not getting much heat if any. Now both heater hoses are cold could this be a malfunctioning thermostat. Where is the temp control on a 96 town car, if any?

The heater control valve is located in the inlet heater hose to the heater core under the hood it may be stuck or not opening are of the way.

While it doesn't seem likely, if you've changed, or had the thermostat changed.... I'd say you got a faulty thermostat. I am curious as to what your temperature gauge says the temperature of the engine and coolant is.. If your gauge is showing hot, I can think of two more possibilities... the water pump isn't pumping right... and, if the water pump isn't working right, the problem can be a cracked head or block, which can cause an airlock in the coolant system. Check the coolant or radiator cap.

Heater doesn't get hot on 96 chevy truck. Blows good, just cold. Replaced thermostat, flushed radiator. Any ideas?


Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

No heat , replaced radiator , water pump, rad. cap , hoses and flushed system twice.blows cool air.whats left?


Thermostat.? if you haven't? Do it first then try it. While the car is running for a while touch the heater hoses that lead to the firewall. if one is cold and one is hot? You have a blocked Heater core. Follow the hoses back to the engine. Unconnect them both. By using a garden hose flush out the heater core do one side and then reverse by doing the other hose Lots of junk will come out so be care ful. Mistake people make is "Flushing the system" That doesn't mean your flushing the heater core.
Seeing that you have done everything else it could be the thermostat which you didn't list or the heater core being clogged. When you finished installing the thermostat and flushing the heater core out. Replenish the coolant system . If you have a bleeder on the thermostat housing? use it . loosen it and top off the fluid until you see fluid comeout of the bleeder. The system being air bound would cause no heat..

Sounds like you have air trapped in the heater core when you flushed the heater core. loosen the upper most heater core hose and run the engine untill coolant seeps out. Wait until the coolant has reached running temperature.

Sounds like the heater core is plugged up. You could try disconnecting the hoses and flushing it out backwards with a garden hose.

Heater not working (no heat)


If u have issues with heatting may be this will help.

1- If the carpet under the heater core is damp, or if antifreeze vapor or steam is coming through the vents, the heater core is leaking.Remove it and install a new unit (most radiator shops will not repair a leaking heater core.

1 - If the air coming out of the heater vents isn't hot, the problem could stem from any of the following causes:
  • The thermostat is stuck open, previnting the engine coolant from warming enough to carry heat to the heater core. Replace the thermostat.
  • There is a blockage in the system, Preventing the flow of coolant through heater core. Feel both heater hoses the firewall. They should be hot.if one of them is cold, there is an obstruction in one of the hoses or in the heater core,or the heater control valve is shut. Detach the hoses and back flush the heater core with a water hose. If the heater core is clear but circulation is impeded, remove the two hoses and flush them out with a water hose.
  • If flushing fails to remove the blockage from the heater core, the coremust replaced.

No heat


It sound's like one of two thing's, first open the glove compartment look behind to the left you will see a clear vacuum line going to a goldish in color accuator remove it once the vehicle is at normal operating temp. if you get heat then you have a problem with the vacuum switch, just plug the vacuum hose, you will have to reconnect it in the summer to get the AC working. The other problem could be the heater control valve, located under the hood inline on the hoses going to the heater core, upper passenger side of the fire wall.

Well sound slike you have covered most the things . I would try and remove the hoses from the heater core and back flush then with a garden hose sounds like the heater core might be pluged. Does it heat up more if you bring up the rpm's ?

Sounds like you have a clogged heater core. Sometimes heater cores can be flushed, but more times than not, it has to be replaced. If you've replaced the thermostat and your lower radiator hose is always cold, chances are it is the heater core. Hope this helps! Have a great day!

Cold air when turn on heater


either an air lock in system or thermostat faulty....you could remove faulty thermostat and warm air would get through eventually...or flush thru system and bleed
