I checked all that. Nothing seems to happen other than the light coming on and stays on till I stop for a few minutes.

Make sure your fuel cap it tight. does it blink or just stay on? what kind of other things happen when the light comes on? you could also go to advance auto or auto zone and they will check the trouble code for free and let you know what it might be.

-good luck

After highway driving for 2 hours and stopping for gas the car would initially start and then stall, it would run again until the car cooled for 30 minutes.

Sounds like your coolant level might be low. At highway speed you probably have enough coolant and with the air passing thru the radiator keeps the temp down, but at idle not so much. Or depending whether you have a belt drive or electric fan. Belt driven, could need a new belt.

Engine temperature coolant sensor

Your description indicates the engine/coolant thermostat is faulty and allowing at least some coolant to continue circulating so at higher road speeds the engine is over cooled.

The sevice engine light comes on only when driven over 100 kms an hour. it has 105,000ks and did a tune up.took it back to the highway thinking maybe that would be enough.not soon as i got off the...

People think like the old days where a tune up fixed 90% of the running problems, not so no more with OBD , OBD2 and CAN systems, the check engine light is the only thing YOU have that tells you there is something wrong with the vehicle. Unless you are able to retrive the codes that are set in memeory in the computer there is nothing anyone here can tell you other then take in to a repair facility that you trust to help you out.

Good Luck

Hello, I have had a similar problem if it is only stalling when it is very hot outside it is probably the coolant temp sensor, it's located on the left front top side of the intake manifold and is very easy to swap out plus it's relatively inexpensive.

Landcruiser GXL 2002 Turbo Diesel - Fuel ? problem

I can only relate this problem to those similar to Ford F150's,,,on the fords it would be bad grounds from the battery to the frame, and engine,,and from the engine to the Firewall.
This would play havoc with the ECM especially when it was damp.
So i can only suggest the obvious to me at least.
Good luck to you.

Engine stalls at stop lights and stop signs

check the fuel regulator, while running unplug the red vacumn hose and if gas squirts out the hole, then it is bad,if not then possibly plugged catalytic converters, drive it on the highway if you can, and stop and look underneath at it and if it looks red, then replace them.Check to see if its overheating, usually a really hot hood tells the story.
