Funny noise and wheel shimmy!!!

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4. When I drive slow I can hear this noise like something is rubbing up against metal to metal. Then when I get up to speed it occasionally shimmys but then I cant hear the noise. My boot on driver side is broken right behind the rotor. Any suggestions and is this dangerous and the present moment?

When you hit your brakes does your steering wheel shimmy a little bit? If not it is most likely your bearings in your wheel have gone bad. If it shimmy's it also could be your ball joints.

I hava a 1999 Grand cherokee loredo V8 with full time 4wheel drive. when the rear tires slip I am hearing a poping noise in the front end when the 4wheel drive engages. I was told by one person that it could be the chain in the transfer case slipping but I was told by a jeep salesman that this year jeep did not have a chain. Could this be the CV joints in the front axels?

I have a 03 Jeep Liberty - whether I'm pulling in or out of a parking spaced and turning the wheels, it feels as if something is grabbing or rubbing against the front wheels. Making u-turns is extremely...

it is difficult to make sharp turns while in 4 wheel drive on a hard surface. If you are able to make sharp turn easily in 2 wheel drive then everything is probably OK. Check your owners manual and review the 4 wheel drive section, there is much to learn.

How can i use the 4 x 4 in my 2000 grand cherokee laredo (6 cyl) i dont have the owners manual and i dont know how to use my 4x4 on snow or something like that

With the Jeep in park, move the left shifter to 4 wheel drive. Proceed to put right shifter into drive, proceed to drive. Only use 4wheel drive when neccessary...ie...snow, mud, use 4 wheel lo in steep incline or when really bogged down.

Hope this helps

I have a 1999 jeep cherokee limited 135k miles.. 2wd rear... when i start off and when i stop i hear something like a dragging sound coming from the rear... what could cause this?

It could be your brakes. Jack up the car, put on safety stands, block front wheels at front and back of tires, put Jeep in neutral, try to spin rear wheels, listen for any rubbing, dragging noise. It could either be brakes not releasing (feel the center of the wheel after driving, is it hot?), or a brake component loose and floating around inside the drum. 'Check this 1st, let me know what you find, then we can continue if necessary.

yes when you make the absoulute full turn your hearing like a hissing noise this is normal if this is what your hearing then problem solved but if has a different sound than that like a rubbing sound then check the fender wells to see is there is any rub marks this can be corrected by putting in a turn stopper
