What does a symbol with 3 wavy lines mean on my dashlights? renault espace 2.2 diesel 04 reg?

Renault Espace Mk4 electronic fault warning light - this symbol will illuminate if there is a problem in the electronic ECU or the automatic transmission. You should have it diagnosed by either your local garage or you can do it yourself using the iCarsoft i907 diagnostic kit. It will allow you to read & reset the fault codes & warning lights on the dashboard of your Clio.

Scenic 54 reg hi beams and front fogs not working

It would be easier to find clues to the fault using a circuit diagram.

There are slight differences how the fog lights are wired and generally are intended to be used only with dipped headlights but for exact operational details the vehicle handbook should be consulted.
You didn't mention what the rear lights including the rear fog lights are doing?

The fog lights usually derive the supply or the control for the circuit from the main lighting circuit so it would seem the fault is before the point in the lighting circuit of that connection.

Look for the RELAYS for the lights. They are usually on the fuse box. Replace the headlight relay.
