No .you have to remove the timing chain cover . crank shaft pulley . but you need a manual. because you have to remove other things to get to timing chain and tensioner.

Timming belt / jump time want to repace belt


honda DOHC and SOHC motors have "zero tolerance" motors, this means if they "jump timing" they need to be inspected for head/valve damage, have this done before spending money on replacing the timing belt

Chrysler did not have a 3.4L engine, your 2000 could have a 2.4L 4 cylinder or a 3.0L 6 cylinder engine, both engine's are INTERFERENCE ENGINE'S, which in the event of timing belt failure, piston to valve damage will occur, the cylinder head will have to be remove to replace bent valve's, with bent valve's engine will not start, due to no cylinder compression.

My timing belt is on the front side and tight on the side that connects to the waterpump. Does that mean a new timing belt or tentioner? I found the problem by checking to see if the waterpump went bad...


Check the belt for wear if nothing is present its normal it all depends on what stroke the engine is on. Thats why it has a tentioner. So the belt can free float. If you want to confirm this just turn the engine a little bit manually and you can watch the belt get tight and loose.

why do you thin that, hondas are a zero tolerance engine so damage will likely occur, when was the timing belt done, they should be done no later than 100,000 miles.newer cars 60,000 miles

Is the 98 trooper 3.5 engine a zero tolerance engine


All engines, be they gas, diesel, electric or aeronauticle, require a tolerance of certain specification as to allow for lubrication of moving parts. An engine can be considered zero tolerance when it has siezed. Please elaborate for me why this question comes to mind. Thank you, Dana

Thinking about buying a 2002 Galant but it needs a timing belt its a 4cyl.just need to know if it is a zero tolerance motor. to see if it may have bent valves.thank you!


remode all plugs and turn the motor over by hand
that will tell you if it a zero tol motor
remember to insert 1 plug at a time to see is the piston has compression and make sure if you fine a bad cyl to spin the cam a couple of degres to make sure it is just open valves and not bent or broken valves

if for some reason with plugs all out and motor will not turn then it is a zero tol motor and will likely need a head job with the timing belt

Zero tolerance means the valves may have hit the piston when the timing belt broke. I would suggest doing a cylinder leakage test to see if the valves are bent or not. If the valves are not bent then you can replace the belt and everything will be ok. If there are bent valves then the cylinder heads will need to be removed and repaired.

this could have happened if the timing belt broke. You are supposed to change the timing belt every 60 to 90 thousand miles.
