Question about 1989 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

1993 ford escort

It jumped time so i replaced the water pump and timeing belt, it still wouldnt run so i pulled the head and bought new reconditioned one and all new gaskets and thermastat, it ran but watter still got into my oil, pulled the head back off and had it tested it was fine so we put it back on, i could litterally hear the water dump into the chambers, now on the block there was 2 little things on it that is used to aligne the head as you put it on, we lost one, could this be the reason water is still getting my oil?

Hi
You are having fun.......Not !

The 2 little tube aligners hold the head gasket in line, and align the head too, but I have fitted heads back in the past, with just one, and never encountered this nightmare !
Usually the head bolts line everything up OK.

You will have to eliminate this now though, and get, or make up a new one and fit it next time.

You also need to fit another new head gasket, as you have compressed it once, and double check it with the original, if you still have it ?
You are renewing the stretch head bolts too I hope ?
This must be costing you a fortune ?
You have to meticulously check the head, block, and head gasket, and waterways for correct seal, before you assemble this time.

Let me know how you get on !

John.

A FixYa rating would be appreciated, if you get it right this time !!!

Good Luck !

At what mileage should i replace the timing belt on 2002 escort 2.0 liter?

Timing belt problems are common with the Ford Escort, mine went, without warning, at 50,000 mi. When your ready to replace it, have the water pump replaced at the same time, it'll save you $$$ in the long run.

It sounds like the water pump belt under the timing belt is broken or the pump is not circulating the anti freeze the way it is supposed to.Did you replace the water pump, water pump belt, and timing belt when you replaced the head gasket? If a vehicle is over 100,000 miles it is recommended to replace the water pump while doing the timing belt just because the pump is such a pain to get to under the timing belt.

AS FAR AS A STEP-BY-STEP:
This type forum to answer that question would literally take dozens of pages. I would strongly suggest you purchase a Haynes or Chilton Manual available at most auto parts stores. You will need the Torque Specifications for each and every Bolt and Nut involved.
Let me know if this helped.

Timing belt jumped... why?

This can be caused by not tensioning the belt corectly. When fitting a new belt you should allways replace the tensioner, and make sure the water pump pulley is in good working order. Its always wise to get your timming belt from the dealer.as others are nown to be faulty.Fit new belt follow manuel when doing so.good luck

1994 ford escort wont stay in time

Is it getting the correct tension on the belt. Is the belt tension spring broke. Make sure you have the right belt. On the 1.9 engine they changed it in 1992 from a square tooth belt to a round tooth belt or the other way around. I'm not sure. Just make sure the teeth on the gears is the same as the belt. I know you said it was a 1994 but do you know if a previous owned changed the motor?

Timing belt tensionor

If your replacing the timing belt you should also be replacing the water pump. Just easier to replace both at the same time. The timing belt tensioner is part of the water pump case. Go to the auto parts store and ask to see a water pump for your engine. New ones come with the tensioner installed. Rebuilt pumps usually have to have one installed. Check out ebay item 220332480595. Nice photo of what you need to know. Good luck.
