Yes, by removing the back seat entirely along with the noise barrier, then crawl through and trip the lock with a flat blade screwdriver..it will be dark in there so use a flashlight or light source of some sort..you may have messed up the switch that controls the trunklight and it may be staying on as well..repost findings..

I think the motor for the latch is dead along with the latch itself is bent into the "locked" position. We've tried to pry it open and it wouldn't budge. I'm thinking we're gonna have to go to the junk yard and get a " new" assembly. Thank you for help!

SOURCE: '91 LS400, trunk will not

If you hear the sound of the electric latch switch, then it's working but stuck somehow. Just put the key in the switch and turn it to the right and then pull up the trunk or ask someone to help you. it will open. I tried it today and it opened with me. It was stuck from inside by some kind of a broken plastic pieces. Just removed it and now it's working fine. good luck

HOW TO TURN OFF THE TRUNK OPEN ALARM

The 2012 Camry's trunk lid has a 'trunk open' alarm that shows up on the instrument panel as 'door open' red icon. It also turns on the door open beeping sound so long as the trunk lid is open. This is normal and is usually not a problem..

However, if you should need to carry a large item in the trunk and can't close the lid, be prepared to listen to the incessant door open sound with no means to turn it off!!

The trunk lid alarm 'switch' is operated by the trunk latch when you open or close the lid. By manually operating the latch to it's closed position, you can temporarily silence the alarm.

Using a small screwdriver, you can easily press the actuator and turn the alarm off.

**WARNING**
YOU MUST RETURN THE ACTUATOR TO THE OPEN POSITION (ABOVE)
(ALARM ON) BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE LID. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY DAMAGE THE LATCHING MECHANISM
**WARNING**

DO THIS WITH THE TRUNK OPEN LEVER OR WITH THE REMOTE TRUNK OPEN BUTTON.

Picture 2: trunk lid latch in the CLOSED (Alarm OFF) position.

IF YOU TRY TO CLOSE THE LID WITH THE LATCH IN THIS POSITION YOU MAY DAMAGE OR BREAK THE LATCHING MECHANISM

2005 Lexus LS430 trunk lid won't close completely

The latch is most likely the issue. If the trunk is used a lot, the latch is misaligned or a foreign object obstructed the latch from closing. The latch itself could be damaged. Carefully inspect the opening of the latch and look for bent, mushroomed or damaged steel. I would have to see to know for sure, how to proceed.

The back hatch on My 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette will not shut. I had the van locked while the gate was up and my mom tried slamming it.Could she have bent it or something please help and thanks

The short answer is yes, something could have bent when that gate was closed with the latch already closed. Look at the latch and make sure it wasn't jammed before you do a full replacement. If the latch is closed use a screw driver to open the latch while using the key to open the gate. Once you get the latch open try closing and locking the gate.

1989 Camaro. Trunk latch will not catch and

Lube it up well & try a screwdriver in latch, the same way it would catch on striker on body and see if it snaps in and holds, if it doesn't, keep lubricating latch and try again until it does. Work key position in lock as well, to make sure it is actually in the latch position & not stuck in open position.When/if it does, and still won't hold closed, then you need to loosen bolts at latch and adjust a little at a time until it does.

Rear motorized hatch stuck in up posotion

I had this same problem. Try slamming the trunk close so that the latch on the door of the trunk will catch onto the motor and then try opening it back up with the key, That worked for me. If not you just may need a new motor.
