Question about 1999 Ford Windstar

1999 ford windstar o/d light blinking

1999 ford windstar with the 3.8L engine

When ever I take this van on the freeway at speeds of 100 km/h or more the o/d light begins to flash on and off. It will only stop flashing when the car is restarted. The transmission was recently rebuilt at 100,000 km.
What does this blinking light mean and how can i fix it? Is this van a lemon? Are all newer cars built to break after the warranty expires or is that just ford?

My problem is close to yours. My 1999 has the same o/d light blinking, but with mine when I get to around 40mph the light turns off and the overdrive does work. I also have the code P0705 showing up. I'm thinking that there must be a sensor for the gear shift positioning sensor. Or there is another Tranny range sensor (this is what the code said), either way the computer does not like the signal it's getting from the shifter (on the colunm). My tranny was rebuilt 350 miles ago, and they said that this is not covered since it's not in the tranny. I also need to do some research on this.

Sounds to me like it may be a sensor in the transmission. Possibly the shift seleniod or the od sensor itself.

Timing belt

Windstar vans don't use a timing belt.
The speed sensor in the transmission could cause the speedo not to work, but the slipping problems may be clutches or solenoids.
Have you checked the engine computer for trouble codes ?

My 1996 ford van speedometer is not working and my overdrive light is blinking?

Could be a problem with the cluster in the dash or the wiring from the speed sensor to the computer.

You need the dealer to scan the Body control module while this is happening, i think you have a defective door ajar switch here.

get the code, the 02's most likely have nothing to do with this problem. The 02's purpose is to tell the PCM you have a fueling issue or misfire issue. The fact that the light is flashing tells me you have a misfire going on and they are doing thier job. Why pay 100 bucks for a part that wont fix this when you can pay someone 100 buck to tell you what your problem is.

We were driving down the freeway when the ODT light started flashing on our 2000 Ford Windstar. WE pulled over, and it was gushing transmission fluid. Well, we got more fluid, and added it, and the ODT...

I would have the vehicle scanned to find out why the od light was flashing. When the light flashes there will be a diagnostic code stored in the engine computer. It sounds like the transmission overheated for some reason and vented the fluid. By the time you added fluid the transmission and started driving the transmission cooled down and quit leaking.

The engin lamp is lighting

most likely plugs or wires (Do both at the same time best bet) Your engine has a certain load a certain speeds, if your ignition system (plugs + wires) arent up to snuff, they will misfire at certain speeds only. I would recomend it 1st, other than that there are a couple of things that do it, but that is most likely. Shop around for ignition parts dilligently, its a very cutthroat market and prices vary greatly, make sure you only buy platinum plugs or better.
