Re: my engine light is on and it won;t shift out of 1st...
This is a Direct Problem with the Transmission. When they **** and Stop as Described above, The only thing that can be Done is a Rebuild. The Clutches on the Inside of the Transmission have Siezed and Probably Caused Major Damage inside. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

First, congrats on the most detailed problem description I have ever seen! Seriously, it does assist us.
All this is completely consistent with your clutch not releasing properly, meaning that the gearbox is still turning when the pedal is depressed. The syncros in the gearbox will then keep you out of gear, that is what they should do. You can indeed shift into higher gears however when driving as the gearbox revs more nearly match to what is needed. The jerking forward when you hit the starter is due to the poor old starter motor having to move the whole car instead of just the engine, because the clutch has not released !
Now as to why, it is likely that the clutch release fork has broken, inside the housing. I had this once with a Mazda, and symptoms were exactly as you describe. The gearbox has to be removed if this is the problem, and you should also then take the chance to renew the clutch, pressure and driven plate both, unless quite new.
Also a possible cause is a complete loss of clutch fluid if a hydraulic clutch, or a broken cable if that type of clutch. Loss of fluid in a hydraulic clutch can be easily checked in the fluid reservoir, and can occur if a hose splits
This may be normal but you can adjust your driving to reduce the impact. To speed up the warm up process of the catalytic converters, the power train computer holds first gear a little longer than normal. This causes your car to get higher in the rpm range than normal, at part throttle, which causes the hard shift. On your first drive, try NOT to accelerate while the car is in first gear--it won't take long for you to learn how far this is.
This is common problems to the transmission when the fluid is getting to dirty and the transmission fluid and filter needs to be replaced. The transmission fluid and filter should be replaced every 45,000 miles to ensure there is no dirt causing the shift servos from binding. The other thing to is that when the transmission fluid get's to dirty, the fluid gets thicker. It retains fluid retention which can cause conflicts in the transmission sensors. What your experiencing is, your transmission is not shifting back to first gear and sticking in to 2nd gear. When you get on the gas peddle, the transmission sensors realize that it needs to be in 1st gear, so as the engine's RPM goes up and the transmission drops back to 1st, you get the jerking condition which will in turn cause you a $2,300.00 transmission replacement. For now when starting off from a stop, let the engine creep forward on it's own first to ensure that the transmission has shifted in to 1st gear. Then get on the gas peddle lightly till you have the transmission serviced. $100.00 transmission service is better then $2,300.00 transmission replacement. Good luck and do not have a transmission fluid flush, just filter and fluid replacement.
I have a 94 lexus es 300 and I have the same problem the check engine and o/d light is on and it drives slow in first or second and then it will shift into 3rd with no problem i went to a tranny shop and they replaced the p0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical and the p0773 Shift Solenoid E Electrical and drove around the block and after 15 mins the lights came back on and car acted the same way and got the same codes so he didnt charge me anything and was like he didnt know what it was so now im stuck with a car that doesnt have 1st or 2nd gear so if anyone can help im open for anything
Take your car to a Chrysler dealer shop and have them update the transmission program. As your tranny wears it loses it shift point and stutters between 40 - 45 mph looking for the right gear to change to..Had same problem in 94 Concorde and 94 T&C minivan.Reprogramming tranny fixed both cars.
