Ive had my 88 corolla deluxe (manual) for a year and a half and its always ran very quiet. Just lately during the bad cold my car with start and warm up fine and ill start driving to work. When i get a stop my car begin to bog out, i tap the gas to keep it running. Do i need a fuel pump? because i know my car is carburated. Whats going on with it?
Try cleang the IAC (Idle control Valve) with carb cleaner or similar Take of the air duct work and look inside the fuel system area inside. At the sides you will find 2 holes . Those are the IAC valve. With the car running at 1200 rpms , spray directly at the holes. For a good 10 seconds. Turn off the engine and let it soak. repeat process 2 or 3 times . See if it cleans the valve to smooth out your cars engine.Hope it helps.

Next time your car bogs, stop and take off the air cleaner lid and look down into the carburetor throat. If you see white ice there then your car is being choked by water vapor that is freezing in the carburetor venturi in cold moist conditions. Check to make sure that the air cleaner is able to get hot air from the area near the exhaust manifold through its hot air pipe and vacuum operated flap valve.
