Question about 1994 Geo Metro

2 Answers

Won't start, no spark.

My car started losing power as I was driving down the road so I pulled over & turned it off. Popped the hood & check battery cables, water, oil, connections, etc. Then tried to start it again & it tries to start but it's not getting any spark. I had to leave it on the side of the road til I can figure out what the problem is. Can you help me?

By the way, it's a 1993 Geo Metro, not a 94. Not sure if that matters.

What about the distributor or coil?

Thanks for responding so quickly. Hate to leave my car on the side of the road, never know these days... :(

LOL, My little Tonka... I got it a Toys R Us, it even came with a remote control... LOL.. Just kidding... But I hear ya, it could be anything. So here's an update: It took me awhile to get it to pass smog a few months back. It was running on only 2 cyls., imagine that, so replaced the head. Still didn't pass smog, so replaced the Cat. Converter, still didn't pass. The check engine light has been intermittent, & of course came on while I was at the Smog shop, so automatically didn't pass... Well, at that point I was outta money & due in court the next morning to show the judge I have fixed the problem, so I disconnected the battery, reconnected it & it passed... :) :) I know the next thing I need to replace is the EGR valve, but that wouldn't cause my current problem? right? I'm thinking Distributor??

I just broke down a few hours ago, so I don't think they will tow it that quick. I believe they tag the car first. I don't have full coverage so couldn't get towing & not in the budget to have it towed. I plan to get back to my car by morning to resolve this problem... I hope. lol.

Check the wires. That happened to me once, I thought the car had died...the ignition wire had dissconnected itself from the distributor. It seems simple, but it took me a while to think to look for it.

Is engine getting fuel ? Do you have spark at spark plugs ? How long ago did you change the fuel filter ? Did you just fill or add gas ? It might have been bad gasoline ( WATER IN SYSTEM )

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora will start sometimes and other times it won't, I replaced the starter and still the same.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

1997 Saab 900 SE Turbo. Problem repeats. Car is off the road. Had started up just fine, several days in a row, now it turns over just fine but does not start. Can hear the fuel pump pressurize. HAd done...

start with the basics: an engine with no internal problems (like timing belt broke, or valve train not timed) needs fuel and spark to start.Since your getting fuel up to the fuel rail to feed the injectors, lets assume for the moment that the injectors are working to put gas into the cyllinder (You coud check that by pulling a plug or two out and see if they are wet or smell of gas.) Then check for spark (Hold the metal tip of plug wire 1/4 inch from a metal bolt or ground on the engine. Careful you don't get a shock-you can also buy a spark checker for a few bucks. just put the plug wire on it and ground it with the clip. Then you won't get a shock.) If you see that it is getting spark, then you may need an expert diagnosis for why it won't run. If you do not detect any spark (might want to try more than one plug wire) then you need to diagnose your ignition. If your car has a distributor, take off the cap and check inside for a cracked dist. cap or bad or worn rotor. You may also have a bad ignition coil or ignition module (expensive, but not as expensive as a bad engine control computer. Distributorless ignition? Again, may be a bad coil, coil pack, or ignition module. good luck, i'm about out of suggestions.

I was driving down the road when all of the sudden i smell burning plastic.I pulled over turned my radio down stepped out popped the hood .I didn;t see any problems i cranked my car and my radio was dead...

arent you still under warranty?! check the positive terminal of the battery(common gm issue). check the wiring at the starter motor and look for burned wires. if there is consider the warranty. BY THE WAY, IF YOU HAVE HEAVY SMOKE AGAIN, DO NOT "POP" THE HOOD! IT CAN CAUSE AN AIR FEED AND POSSIBLY IGNITE A FIRE IN YOUR FACE. ive put out car fires in iraq. its not fun getting or treating people for burns. let me know if you need further assistance. cheers

I was driving down the road, car started acting like it wasnt getting any power so i pulled into a parking lot, put car in park, it idled rough for about a minute, then the battery light popped on and car...

sounds like your altenator is bad. it will bring down your battery. your serpintine belt could also be bad and slipping. my bet is the altenator went bad and your batteru is now bad also. replace both and you should be good to go
