I have an 02' Ford Explorer snd I'm having an intermittent problem with the truck not starting. When we are out and park for a little while at a grocery store or something and come back the truck will turn over but not start. We have it towed to a shop and when we arrive there it starts. This has happened a few times and is very frustrating because the shop says they cannot diagnose the problem without getting the problem to re occur. What are my options to self diagnose the problem?

Check the key that year modle has a chip in the key and if it was around something magnetic it could have lost it's programing. If that is not it the there is a fuel rail with what looks like a air pressure valve. turn the key on and press that valve if fuel sprays out it is your key. If fuel doesn't spray the it is your pump

2008 Mercury Mountaineer electrical issues

This is a devious problem which could lie anywhere. So many things not functioning would perhaps be a ground problem. Maybe take some extra care in cleaning the battery terminals, check if the ground wire is connected to the chassis. Do you have rodents in your area? Maybe they nibbled some wire somewhere?

Engine turns but won't start

Check fuel pressure. From what your explaining that is what it sounds like. Should be around 30psi and hold. Very common problem for any car that is parked overnight or filled up with gas and then it doesnt start the next day.

2002 mercury sable, first ignition cranking but no start.

I would start with the fuel pump relay. The relay may not be working which would require the engine be cranked for a long time to get fuel pressure.
You could also have a problem with the venting of the gas tank.

2oo3 mercury moutaineer wont turn over from ignition but from silenoid it will. any ideas

Sounds like your Interlock switch on the Brake pedal switch or the linkage in the shift cable is out of time. Check brakelights.

There was a problem in vehicle lurching when started. There were 2 different ideas to solve this. One system would allow the starter to work and the engine to run, but made shifting out of Park impossible without a foot on the brake. The other system required the foot on the brake and this signal would allow the starter solenoid to get a pulse from the Ignition switch. Some required the Gearshift to be in Park or Neutral before the brake signal could clear the Ignition and provide a pulse.

So your brake pedal switch probably is out of position or broken. If it is good, then the Gearshift position must be slightly off.

Also check the small wires on the solenoid to see if Voltage is present whenkey is turned to start and foot on brake.
