How to pull codes from a Jaguar X Type 2.5 2003

My Jag wont turn over & I dont think its the battery. I did disconnect it & charge it all day then it started up after a few turns & now wont start again. I wondering if there is a way to get the codes before I do spend all that money on a new battery.

I checked the battery after I gave it a good charge & ot says the battery is ok. Everything else works, the heat, ac, lights, radio & it just wont start. I did check the fuses also so thats why i was looking for a way how to pull the code.

It did start few months ago but then wouldnt after that last charge.

    Yes it has gas.

    Thanks for the help guys.

I was reading somewhere online last night & I think It might be the starter because someone else has this same problem... "clicks from what I think may be the selinoid engaging but the engine will not turn over. When I release the key there is a 1 to 2 second winding down buzzing sound. "

Same problem as me I believe. I will charge up the battery again while I attempt to remove the starter & see what happens from there.

I will keep you guys posted. Thank you for the help!

I took out the starter & had it checked at AutoZone & they said the starter was OK. Put it back in & still does the same as before. The battery says its ok also but still same sound happening.

  • loko498 Feb 09, 2009

Yes the starter spins & engages when they tested it. I put it back in & still doesnt turn the engine. The battery is reading that it is good when checked with the meter.

  • loko498 Feb 09, 2009

I did try to jump start it & same thing, nothing. I also charged the battery all day a few weeks ago & thats when it did start up but then after trying again, there was nothing just same clicking sound.

Yes it does not spin the engine but when I tried to jump the starter yesterday with a screwdriver touching the starter terminals, it did try to turn the engine like 2 inches very slowly. Maybe the battery really is shot. I think I will just go spend the 140 for a new battery & hope that is the problem. I will wait till Friday for that & keep trying a few other things.

I think I will also doubble check all the fuses.

Hey guys, Sorry I havent posted this sooner but you know what I did. I went out & bought a new battery anyway & that was the problem, starts right up. They said the stock battery wasnt meant to be charged up so maybe when I did charge it that first time, that was the only time it would take a charge & destroyed itself.

When you took the starter to the parts store did they say the solonoid was working properly ?? you already said it was winding down so I assumed you ment the starter spins .. It has to also spin when it is engaged by the solonoid into the gears to turn the engine over .. Jerry

Now you told the whole story with the spinning noise and winding down your starter is turning over but it is not engaging.. it is the solonoid which engages the starter to turn the engine over. it is sticking and wont engage..the solonoid is it..

Tell me more on the problem will the engine spin over but just wont start ? if it does you need to shoot a little starting fluid into the throttle body throat or in the air cleaner or use gasoline to see if it will try to start or start up .. if it does you have a fuel problem if not let me know we wil go from there. thanks again Jerry holler if you need more.

Something wrong here .. battery tests good and starter tests good and it wont spin the engine over. ok what if you jump start it ? if it spins the engine the battery is shot.. if the starter is spinning and not turning the engine the starter or selonoid is bad .. thats got to be all there is to it .. thanks again Jerry

Yes I would buy a battery then .. sounds like it for sure is causing a problem if you start it with a scrrewdriver and it just turns a little it is not geting enought power. make sure to get at least a 600-700 cranking amp battery for cold weather too.. thanks Jerry

    Hi Loco

Have you got this running yet ?

This is beginning to read like a novel !

When you took the starter to Auto Zone, How did they test it ?

It needs to be tested under load !

This is when it will show faulty.

    Fit a new starter !

    Good Luck

Beeping jag wont stop 2001 styp

if the alarm is sounding the common prob. is the pos. battery supply missing from the fem,[ front electric module] located lh lower A post brown/red wire i think. it sets the security system off after you have locked the car, it thinks the battery has been disconnected. the most likely cause is a corroded open circuit wire around the front bumper/lh wheel arch liner area. the power comes from i think the engine bay fuse box, the other option could be a faulty door or trunk/hood latch

Radio code does not work in my x type, 52 plate, jag say it must have been changed some time in past, is there a sequence i can press to start it up again without code ?

Have a look on jaguarforums co uk
I found this:
Hope this helps anyone who has forgotten their code for their x type sound system. It may work on s type as well but I don't know anyone who has got one to try. Contacted Hartwell in Shrewsbury for the code for my radio as I was disconnecting the battery to change the water pump (another story). They we very helpful and charge me £20 over the phone so they could access their Jaguar computer system and give me a code according to the car reg. plate. Job done I thought - got on and did the job. Went to enter the code... Didn't work! Tried it 3 times and it locked me out for 30 minutes. Phoned Hartwell's back and they'd closed for the day!

Did some research on the internet and if you've got the same problem try this....

Enter any code 3 times so that the display shows "PLEASE WAIT"

Simultaneously press ">>" "PTY" "A.MEM" should only take 2 or 3 seconds and the radio turns on.

Hope this helps and saves some one some money!!

Sir, I own a jaguar s-type 2000 4.0 runs very rough

Its not codes, what they mean is this. Your car learns how you drive, this information is stored in the Engine computers memory. If the battery is disconnected or is discharged, this memory is lost along with certain other operating parameters. One of the things lost is the "idle point" The cars computer should rewrite this information itself within about 50 miles of driving, if it does not, you may have to disconnect the battery again, leave it disconnected for about 5 minutes and then reconnect. Drive the vehicle to reload the lost information. Now, did you charge the battery whilst it was still connected to the vehicles electrical system..? If you did, you may have damaged the cars computer. This happens due to the higher voltage supplied by all battery chargers.. If disconnecting the battery does not seem to help, take the vehicle to a professional and have the cars computer checked properly.
