If you have a clicking sound when turning you need to replace the axles , wear is accelerated when the CV boot gets torn and lets grease out / water & grit in

How do I decide if it's the drive shaft or the CV joint?

It is easier to change the whole half shaft than it is to change just the CV joint.

It sound like you lost a half shaft, which is one of the drive axles on a front wheel drive car. They are usually not hard to replace. But you might need a large torque wrench upwards of 200 foot pounds. And make sure to use the correct type of transmission fluid to refill the transmission with.

Need to know if the brake lines going to the back brakes are metal and where they run such as wich side of car

Yes they are steel lines until they make the connection at the end of the axle. Then they change to a high pressure rubber hose to allow for axle movement as the wheels oscillate up and down as the roads surface changes. Just locate the master cylinder on the firewall in the engine compartment on the drivers side. Follow the brake lines down under the vehicle and to the rear axle(s).

Heard some rattling in the steering wheel took off the cover where the horn and cruis control is and a big metal piece with rubber stoppers fell out. what is it?

hi,
this is either the airbag or the vibration dampener. Im not sure exactly when they changed over to airbag, I think it was that year so. if that metal piece has no wires going into it then its just a vibration dampener, it just lessens road noise coming from the steering system. if its the airbag assembly be careful with that. undo the battery and let it sit for a half hour then study that box and come up with some sort of shim(styrofoam?) to keep it from rattling around in there. dont shim on top of the box if its an airbag, shim the sides somehow. use this tip at your own risk..

Hi! The sound you hear may be the worn brake calipers which may need replacement. ROtor disc that may be in bad shape which will require replacement too. Have a good look at the wheel bearings too for they can produce grinding sound too when worn. HOpe this helps and have a good one!

Take the car for a test drive, around town, and on the freeway. Notice how well and when it shifts, listen for any unusual noises and rattles when hitting bumps. Have the car put on a lift and check the underneath side for any wets spots of pssoble leaks. If possible, remove the wheels and check the brakes and struts.
