If you have no power to the unit (no info showing, I would look at the fuses.)

Our outside temperature display on our dash now says zone 9, not the outside temperature, on our 2002 Ford Explorer. How do we fix it to display the temperature again?

The zone nine is for the compass you need to calibrate the compass. and then you temp will work again. check the owners manual if you do not have one call the service department at a ford dealer they should be able to help you.

The compass heading and tempreature indicator on the overhead console is not illuminated anymore....

If the overhead lights work then it is a faulty compass/temp module. These units are notorious for going bad. I offer a repair service with a lifetime guarantee. You can't beat the price or guarantee. Check it out: thanks!

Inside compass and thermeter does not work. How

You may have blown a fuse under the dash. I must express that if you don't know how to fix or have knowledge to do these things, find someone who does.
If your vehicle came with a basic manual, read the section on electrical system. It will tell you the location of your fuse box and it will tell you how to reset the compass and temp.
My Chevy came with this and it is the best part of the truck.

The compass light is not on.

This is a very common problem with many of the mid 2000 Ford truck and SUV overhead consoles. The console is very prone to internal failure. If the dome lights work but the compass unit does not then it is a faulty computer unit. I offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee, check it out:
There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!
