Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Anti-Shudder Valve is sticking

The dealership told me the car needs the air-intake cleaned, but they want to charge me about $400.00!! there has to be an easier way to clean it out...is there some type of spray i can buy to clean it out? i looked in there, and its is pretty black and caked up...please help!

also...in the mornings the light that indicates that the car is over heating (i think that what it is)flashes...and it like 30-50 degrees outside...what does this mean?? i've just been ignoring it...

(it is has become annoying/embarassing to have to pop my hood about 75% of the time and un stick the valve when i want to start my car...)

Get some carb cleaner. Yes I know it is not carb but you can spray it in there and it should remove that cake build up. I have the same car and it worked for me just fine. After you do that the light should stop flashing and everything should be ok. If you know how to remove it I would remove it and clean it out of the car.

Idles low and dies

Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professional.

1993 ford escort automatic 4cylinder idles rough occasionally. No check engine light I just need advice on what it may be it runs excellent once I put it in gear and go

This is often caused by hard engine mounts and a dirty idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Clean the intake following these instructions, that should improve the idle issue.

Motor shuts off when you are not accelterating

Try this

Here is the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.

My peugeot 406 1.8 XU revs up when started from cold. It then settles down but hunts up and down. It has done this for the past 2 winters. OK in the summer. Have changed the coolant temp probe. Not solved....

You need to clean the throttle valve and the automatic idle speed control valve, follow the procedure below.

You may have a dirty throttle valve and idle speed control valve, it is common on older systems, to clean the system that holds the idle speed up cold do the following:

More than likely the automatic idle speed control valve is dirty along with the throttle valve, clean them as outlined below.

1997 honda odyssey rpms go up and down while in park and trys to stall out when in gear and take foot off gas pedal

The idle speed in your car is controlled by a computer (known as the PCM), the computer controls a valve called the Air Bypass Valve, this valve and the throttle valve get full of sludge from fuel vapors and combustion "blow back", this causes the valve to stick or move slowly, this in turn causes surging (speed goes up and down) in the idle speed of the engine, it is the most common reason for idle surge on any fuel injected gas engine up to about 2004 when car makers starting using electronic throttle control. To clean the idle speed control valve and the throttle valve do the following.

I have a volkswagen golf tdi, engine wont start batteryisnt flat and starter mototr has been checked were pretty sure its the immobiliser , key fob works we checked batteries but wont lock/unlock doors,...

look at the anti shudder valve (asv) look at pics on net. Its an air intake valve that shuts in order to stop the engine. It sometimes sticks shut. Syptoms are engines tries to fire but then turns over very freely but wont start. If it is this the whole air intake system needs de coking.
