Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Transmission slips at 20mph on 2004 santa fe

The transmission slips at 20 mph and I took it in to a transmission shop and they said 10 hours to take it out and and send it to their "factory" and have it rebuilt, and if it was the soft parts clutch and so on that it would be 2k. I've been told that there is no filter and cannot be flushed out or changed to see if it would fix the problem. Is this a common problem and is there a more inexpensive solution?

I too had the same problem last week with my 2003 Santa Fe (57,000 miles on it). It kept slipping when in 2nd gear. I took it to the shop and they said that they had never seen transmission fluid so burnt. They don't do transmission work but informed me that within several weeks I would be without a transmission. To fix it it would be upwards of $3000!!! Needless to say, I unloaded the thing and am now driving a Ford as of Saturday.

You can flush out the trans all you hace to do is remove one of the trans cooler lines off the radator and start it and the oil will come out at the same time you add oil to to the trans

What is the labor hours to replace a 2.4 ltr engine in a 2004 Santa Fe?

Right around 10-12 hours.

My book time shows 10 hours to R&I and then I would add at least 2 hours to transfer parts to the new or used engine.

What would cause a knock in my engine/transmission when I am breaking from 20 to 15mph in a 2002 hyundai santa fe?

Depends on whether it is some internal knock or external to the engine/transmission. If external you will need to have the transmission and engine mounts checked.

If it is internal and definitely originating from the engine or transmission it is impossible to say what the cause is without testing the car. Changing the fluid in the transmission will not cure a knock of the kind you have described.

Santa Fe chokes and does not shift

Sounds like the transmission is slipping

If so, it has been doing so too long I suspect,
to have a solution other than a complete rebuild,
if you have driven more than just enough to get home
& stopped using it

If we ruled out the trans & know for sure it was okey, then
you have a damaged exhaust converter & trouble getting
to 50 mph, again years of cylinder misfires would have caused
that to happen.

Another possiblity would be a timing belt jumped a couple teeth

Keep the check book handy & hope it is something simple I missed

2002 Santa Fe 127174 miles. On hills car slows dwn, rpm is climbing, speed is droping. on steep hills from a dead stop rpm's are 4,000 speed is just below 20mph. have had the fluid flushed twice.

sounds like your transmission is going bad fast. get it checked asap to see if it can still be saved. aamco will take a look at it. if its completely bad, then getting a new transmission might be cheaper than getting the current one fixed so look into that!!

When i start off in my hyundai santa fe sometimes it jerks like the trans is slipping. what would cause this

It could be time for a transmission tune-up. The filter might be clogging and the oil could have lost its lubricity. I recommend Lucas for transmission is also put in along with the recommended transmission oil for your vehicle.
