Autozone is a familiar store that does this but a variety of other parts places will hook the diagnostic scanner to your vehicle at no charge and give you a print-out of the trouble codes. Once you have these trouble codes you can do web searches and find out what it is and why it is happening. If you just want to know what a speed sensor is- Depending on your vehicle you could have (1) or more but the most common is the transmission speed sensor which transmits information so that the engine and the transmission are on the same page.

Your mechanic is making a wild guess, find out when trouble code is set and go from there.

WHAT DOES A CRANK SENSER DO

A crank sensor simply senses the position of the crankshaft. This combined with a speed sensor and and and the BAP sensor (Barometric Absolute Pressure) Gives the computer enough info to calculate the ignition timing. Not such a terror after having gone to school for computer controlled systems. Glad I'm not doing auto mechanics any more.

Hi there:
You are right, DTC P0058 - HO2S Heater Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2

As far as replacing them, the only thing that has me wondering about a wiring issue. Keep in mind that power comes directly from the engine computer. Either the wires are broken or the computer is bad.

Aditionally, in THIS LINK could fin other descrtipion test and details procedure.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Blazer ran fine, parked and came out after lunch and it would not fire, turns over but will not fire check engine lite is on with ignition in on position. checked fuses and they are all good, could it be...

Hello csdunne: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. The oxygen sensor will not cause a no start condition. How ever the fuel pump will. You need to test the fuel pressure. Whether you have a 4x4 or 4x2 the pressures are the same. Key on engine off. a 4.3 W engine should have 60-66 psi. A 4.3 X engine will have 55-60 psi. I would also check the fuel filter. A dirty fuel filter will cause low fuel pressure. If the pressure is below the min. by just a few pounds the engine would not start. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

2000 sonata check engine lite came on, transmission went to 2 nd gear. computer said idler control valv bad.put in new, reset computer, drove 100 yds. check eng lite 2nd gear again, now computer said speed...

The output speed sensor is located on top of the transmission output shaft, this will send speed value to the transmission control module (TCM).
The vehicle speed sensor is installed on the differential of the transmission, and sends speed value to speed gauge on instrument cluster.

Check also IAC valve and look for vacuum leaks using an hand tool gauge(Vacuum Gauge and Fuel Pump Pressure).
