Can you take a pic of yours as it is? Have never had any trouble with the Mitsi gear lever linkages. Hard to say without seeing yours.
Cheers

My gearstick is just flopping about how can i get in to sort the gear linkage

Raise the car and from underneath check the intermediate anchor point of the linkage - on 405 it's notoriously weak. If it pops back in easily then it will pop out again easier, replace the linkage arms.

the linkage might have popped off the tranny must of those are on a ball socket, if you open the hood and find the cable that goes to the transmission. and you will most likly find that it popped off. if you have someone in the car when you are ready to pop it back on have them move the shifter until in the right spot and then push it back on. if it keeps poping off you will have to replace the cable.

I have a 1984 Ford Ranger 4 Speed manual shift. Shifter seems loose, is hard to find gears, when you get it in 1st, it does well going into other gears, except, now is stuck in reverse. When the shifter is...

Hi,
You have the same problem as a previous guy, its the ball and socket at the end of the gearstick, its worn out, or just popping out of it's socket so the bolts holding it down or the large nut the is holding the gearstick in needs tightening. So best to remove it, check for wear and if it is ok then use a loctite glue to refit the main nut over the gear lever.
Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

96 Jetta 2.o liter has no reverse. have to put into reverse for 1st gear. does anyone know if this is linkage or clutch?

At the botton of the gearstick is a small clip that holds your gear stick in place, I had it on my V dub. The stick will slip into reverse but work 1st. It's a small job to replace, remove all the inside gear cowling, and lift out. You will see the clip broken, just take the circlip off, lift off the broken clip, replace with a new one, it's easy. Just Remember that when you put your car in 1st, (reverse) your reversing lights come on, giving the car behind you a bit of a shock, if you are sat at lights etc! Have fun, dave

Nissan Pulsar N14 Manual Gearstick Rattles

This is common for that transmission, it will eventually lead to 5th gear POPOUT, where it will actually pop itself out of 5th gear... I would get a second opinion to be sure, but looks like a rebuild is near maybe.. :(

Bushes missing from gear stick and transfer stick

If it's a later model (post 98), then I have an idea what's happened. On the rounded ball end of the gear stick that goes in the box, there is meant to be a plastic bush that is only a very loose fit on the end of the stick. If it has dropped while either removing or replacing the gearstick, and fallen into the area at the back of where the gearstick actuates the shift rail, then apart from having a very sloppy gearstick, you won't be able to move the shift rail backwards - which is what happens when you move the gearstick forward (1st,3rd,5th). This should be fixable from in the cab. Of course, if you have an earlier model, none of the above applies, as you have the gearstick moving only one of a choice of three shift rails with no bush in that area. The only thing that happens to those is the spring on the gearstick breaks (that can't be replaced on its own!)

1991 Ford Escort F4EAT Won't shift into 1st unless I put into Low and even then it slips and chatters until it finally grabs then it doesnt seem to slip at all could it be gearshift position sensor or a...

Pop the hood, and you'll find a cable running left to right (near your throttle body). It also has a spring that snugs this cable so it will have no play.

A common problem with the F-4EAT in the ford escort is that over time for some reason there becomes slack in this line or the spring wears out. If you are having trouble getting into first this is usually the problem. simply adjust the length of the cable and replace the spring.

If that doesn't work... I heard something about cleaning out the accumulator (some sort of spring mechanism) as it often causes this transmission to be sluggish (or change gears very late).

cheers.
