Question about 2004 Ford F150

1996 f150 5.0 idles fine then stalls and wont start

I have a1996 f150 5.0 2wd that starts and idles fine, for anywhere between 5min to 15min then stalls cant get it started again unless it sits for a hour or so. some times overnight. put a new engine not turned also replaced control module and crank position sensor and coil. brought number one cyl to top dead center on comp stroke and roter was pointed at cyl 1 spark tower. last code to come up was 1359 but i think that was because i unpluged the spout conector. any help would be greatly appreciated. i am broke and desperate to get it fixed. p.s. cleaned the iac valve. didn't help

    no code came up for the iac valve. took it off and cleaned it. still having the same problem.

    ciarocci, it is a 5.0 302 it has spark and is getting fuel. just pulled two codes. they are 1351 (idm circuit input malfunction) and 0320 (ignition engine speed , "profile ignition pickup pip circuit malfunction) those were the codes i had before i replaced the dist and ignition module. still come up.

    One last clarification. Are those codes given in memory, or are they hard codes? In other words, do you get them before or after the separator code 10?

    You're all missing the big point. A fuel filter or a bad IAC valve wouldn't prevent the truck from starting at all until it cooled down. In fact, the engine needs more fuel when it's cold. If the IAC was defective, simply pushing the accelerator down part way would get the engine running, even if it does stall when you let your foot off the throttle. DSham78, have you had the opportunity to check the things I asked about?

    Try a new fuel filter. try the small stuff first before jumping into the big stuff.

    Generally when a Ford truck from that era exhibits the symptoms you are talking about, it is related to the stator in the distributor. However, you stated that you replaced the distributor and module. The SPOUT code wouldn't cause your stall either. When the SPOUT plug is out, it simply disengages the computers ability to control timing and it stays fixed at 10 degrees BTDC. Let me ask you a question that may lead you to the solution. When the car won't start, have you checked if it has spark and fuel? Most likely one of those is missing at that time and that will tell you in which direction to go. Tell me what you find when it doesn't start. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, tell me what the pressure is when it will not start. Also, if you could tell me what engine you have in the truck it would be helpful.

Belive it or not you may have a defective IAC Valve , it is common for the valve not to work correctly and not set a code in the ECM

I would replace the fuel filter, double check your work and make sure that all plug wires are securely connected and going to the right place (we all make mistakes sometimes) and check or replace the coil.

Engine stalls or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Ford ranger 1996 4.0L v6 single cab long bed it runs but you have 2 have your foot on the gas it does not stay in idle for more than 5min less than that usually it does not take much gas pedal pressure to...

I would suspect that you have a failing fuel pump, the fuel pump pressure is bleeding off due to a faulty check valve, this causes hard starting esp when cold or after sitting. The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump assembly.

1996 jeep grand cherokee stalls when i put it in gear the RPM's drop down and it stalls it also acts up when i push on the brakes like its running out of gas. After it stalls it wont start unless i leave...

Try looking at your air filter. You could have a vacuum leak, like you already said. Also, check your coolant sensor and intake air temp sensor, if equipped.

1995 chevy cavalier intermittently stalling while driving

it is most likely **** in your gas tank  the **** gets stuck in the fuel pump and then it wont send fuel let me know what you  think
