2000 Volkswagen Beetle starting problems due to anti theft system

I have a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle that sometimes will not start due to ( I have been told by the Volswagen repair shop) the anti-theft system. It will only do this occasionally. Any suggestions as they could not fix the car.

2000 VW Beetle - The anti-theft light will come on when the car does not start. Sometimes you can use the other key, and it will start. The engine cranks but then dies immediately. It doesn't always do this. It starts the majority of the time. It does not die while it is running.

my 2001 jimmy will not start when the security light is on. how do you check the door lock to make sure it is ok?

Why are they saying it is the Anti theft system? Also the Anti Theft system is wired into your ignition, but that does not usually happen unless you have it wired to not start the car

You need to check the drivers door lock unit. this is a more common problem where the switch fails and the anti-theft system doesn't get disarmed by the door unlocking

problem is your can then can be stoln by a screw driver***but all theves know they hav anti thef so wont mess with them in the first place
cost 200$++they can tweek to get more boost+hp
a no brainer---win-win

SOURCE: anti theft system -can't start car

The price is forbidding our small income expenses. . .BUT if you can
determine my explanation below that your bypass is compatible with ours?
We, I, my wife and baby, are confined in the seculed place in Hayfork
mountains. . .I am seeking for main stand-alone switcher that turns off
against fuel pump, against inner dome light, against rear trunk lid light,
against auto transmission and against four door lock actuators . . .I
successfully made it run with bypass starter relay and hot wired down to
gas tank pump and it runs well but "service immediately" light stays on..
and auto transmission starts on 3 rd gear that stalls engine, it wont start
on second gear. . .when arrived home on uphill road it wont go up so I
drove it on reverse and finally parked here. . .
I KNOW it is a few steps ahead where stand-alone switcher are. I am going
to follow the dome light's wire down to the place where relay-switchers
are. . or follow gas pump wire that I assume can be very hard way to do. .
but before I go ahead that if you can tell me where those switchers for
A/T, fuel pump, inner lights, doors are located?? in 1998 SL1 ? that would
really save my searching . . . Your tips without having to purchase your
bypassing kit would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Donald

SOURCE: anti-theft system will not allow car to start

Have you chaged the battery on the remote. And also do you have a valet button under the dash somewhere if you push it for about 15-30 sec. it should reset the alarm. if it fails you might need a whole new alarm system.

This sounds like the anti theft system is active, you jump start it but it dies out after a few seconds , if this is correct then try another key. the other thing can be a weak battery make sure the battery is fully charged and good,

I would gues, if there's no problem with fuel and air, that it is your convenience module or a faulty key, and its engaging the anti theft device.

My 2002 VW Beetle (not turbo) after charging battery won't run

Hopefully you are using the same ignition key you had before to start the car. This flip module mhas a chip that tells the system you have the proper key. If for some unknown reason the system lost this program it is probably a dealer only problem. The chip is inside the fob right near the key itself.

Cannot turn alarm off when i open door with key. want to disconnect by removing fuse but i dont know what fuse controls it

Somehow your Imoblizer has a malfunction. It needs to be hooked up to a compatible scan tool if you don't want the dealer to do it. Disarming isn't as easy as removing a fuse to shut the alarm system off. It is more complicated than that. So many features rely on the anti theft making sure your car doesn't start when security is breached. Have someone with a VAG 1552 scan tool download your DTC's so you can correct your imobilizer problem.

What does the ECG light mean on a 2002 VW beetle?

It has to due with the anti theft system. Try replacing the battery, when my battery went bad the ecg light came on and the car wouldn't allow me to drive. That or your key may need reprogrammed by the dealer.
