2000 Volkswagen Beetle starting problems due to anti theft system

I have a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle that sometimes will not start due to ( I have been told by the Volswagen repair shop) the anti-theft system. It will only do this occasionally. Any suggestions as they could not fix the car.

Why are they saying it is the Anti theft system? Also the Anti Theft system is wired into your ignition, but that does not usually happen unless you have it wired to not start the car

- 2000 VW Beetle - The anti-theft light will come on when the car does not start. Sometimes you can use the other key, and it will start. The engine cranks but then dies immediately. It doesn't always do this. It starts the majority of the time. It does not die while it is running.- Guest
