2001 pontiac when it shift it jumps and recently engine light on?

What problem trans or engine or motor mount?

    We are having the same problem with out 2001 Aztek, but the engine light is not on and you can actually hear the car shift, it doesn't sound right. But it doesn't do it all the time.

Transmission pressure control sensor. $30.00 part. Common problem with Azteks. You have to remove side transmission cover to access. Would advise taking to dealer.Cost for me with a tranny fluid and filter change & and sensor replaced was $232.00 ...not too bad for a dealer doing the work. (lol)

Why does it jump and lurch a little each time the gears shift?


i'd get a diagnosis from a reputable trans shop as could be as you say alignement , ie mountings or shift solenoids , would need to see vehicle to be more precise , hope this helps a bit

1995 Pontiac sun fire 2.2l. It had a 5 speed transmission keeps jumping out of reverse while backing up


Have to pull the trans out

Completely disassemble it

Replace all the snychro rings for each gear

Also check any shift linkage or cable adjustment

Also replace all motor & transaxle mounts

you probably have a bad motor mount. Look under the hood, passenger side of engine compartment cast iron mount with rubber insert. Is the rubber insert worn visually inspecting. If you cannot tell, have a friend start the car, emergency brake on, foot on brake, shift from park to drive, does the motor jump in the mount? shift from drive to reverse, does it jump again. If so bad mount, local auto repair store should carry. you will have to jack up the engine carefully not much and not directly on oil pan, you just have to relieve the weight on the mount to replace. several m10 bolts, 15mm socket to remove. retighten fasteners to 58+/- 9Nm of torque. good luck.

My 93 GTP,3.4 When put in reverse to leave my yard has a sum what of a hard bang and shifts hard.I replaced the dog bone bone but thats not the problem. Would a worn CVC jiont do this? What could it


Cv joints usually knock or click, especially when turning. Open the hood, start the engine and while looking at the engine from the drivers seat put foot on brake and shift to reverse. if the engine jumps, must have a bad mount. also may try giving it a little gas while holding brake to make sure. also try it it drive as well. chances are its the trans mount going bad.


note: if there are any oil leaks that are getting the mount wet it will continue to fail.

I have a 1996 toyota camry that jumps when I put it in drive, and if when I try to accelerate sometimes it jumps. I dont know if its the motor mount or transmission. Do you know what it could be?


I would suggest you check & possibly replace all
the engine & transaxle mounts, based on the age of the car

Next you have to separate an engine performance issue,
from a possible trans issue

I suspect you have a mount problem & a possible sensor
problem or something that effects the trans shifting strategy.

Yes so when I hold my foot on the break to shift from park to reverse or drive the car will jump. If you open the hood you can see the engine rock. Sumtimes you will have a similar feeling when the car...


A new and significant jump or jolt upon engaging the trans could mean you have a broken front engine mount. Your car has a transverse mounted engine with a big mount holding it at the front of the car. It this mount goes bad the engine can "twist" under the hood. This sudden twisting or torque reaction can be felt until the engine runs into something solid *(usually whats left of the engine mount).

Don't wait on this one....see a mechanic A.S.A.P. A damaged mount is only going to do more damage as the engine twists back and forth under the hood. Stressing out the other connections to the engine, i.e., electrical, fuel, exhaust. Leading to more damage.

If trans is still shifting its most likely a blown cluster fuse or bad cluster.If you have a check engine light & trans don't shift most likely blown trans fuse or trans vss (speedo) harness at right drive axle broken puple with white stripe wire or light green wire with black stripe
