Question about 2000 Volkswagen Passat 4Motion
I've got a 2000 Passat Wagon. It's a V6.
Occasionally a white smoke either comes through the AC vents or from under the hood. I've never been able to stop and see where it is coming from under the hood, but it only comes out of the sides or close to the windshield. There is never a lot of smoke and after driving for a few minutes the smoke and/or smell goes away. It smells like burning rubber or oil. Sometimes you can smell it but not see the smoke.
My wife thinks that it may only happen when we are running the AC. It certainly doesn't happen every time we drive.
In addition, I have a check engine light and a message that says "Emissions Workshop." I've checked online and it seems like the message could be anything or it could mean nothing. If I unhook the battery, the message goes away for about a week, then returns.
U HAVE A HEATER CORE LEAK, DOES THE SMOKE SMELL SICKY SWEET? AS FAR AS THE CEL GOES HAVE THE SYSTEM TESTED FOR FREE BY ANY KRAGEN AUTO OR AUTOZONE, JUST ASK FOR A OBD 2 TROUBLE CODE TEST, THEN POST THE CODE BACK HERE FOR US TO LOOK AT AND TRY AND DEVELOPE A FIX STRATEGY.

most autoparts stores will run the check engine light for you for free....I am assuming that you either have a clogged catalytic converter, or your o2 sensor is throwing a fault....have autozone check it out and post back.
