Replace the thermostat. If thermo is stuck open, coolant only heats up when there is no flow over radiator(idle) and then cools down when driving. Also, check coolant level, same response as stuck thermo.

Nissan Pathfinder will not start when engine is luke warm. Please read through the details as the Fixya character counter sucks/

Please don't hurt more walls! Just kidding..what a problem. If you have the correct sensor installed and it is working correctly (check with multimeter for change in resistance when cold, warm, hot) then the signal getting to the computer must be getting scrambled in some way. Check the wire connection where you clip it onto the sensor. Use a multi meter and check for continuity there and back further along the wire.
if you can't trace the wire all the way to the computer, you may have to do a bodge job..rig a wire into the cab with an on off switch.
Only to be used when the engine is warm..flick switch to off, start truck, flick switch back to reengage sensor.......
think of it as an unusual theft deterrent !

Heater low heat

check to make sure your cooling fan isn't running constantly, also if your temp gauge says the engine is hot but the heat isn't you have a flow problem. maybe water pump or a clogged/ crimped hose. if your gauge isn't very hot then put some cardboard infront of the grill.

My 2006 ford f250 6.0 litre powerstroke has been showing that it is over heating and now it takes forever to show when the engine is at normal operating range or even warm at all but once it does the guage...

I think first of all you need to verify that it is really overheating and isn't a sensor that has become faulty and is sending false information to the management computer that these days will drive the cooling fan, the temp gauge and any alarms.
An obd scanner should show a similar coolant temp and air temp when the engine is cold and then register a fairly smooth increase after starting until it drops when the thermostat opens and begins to climb again until working temperature is reached and the cooling fan begins to cycle (if electric).

A failure to register and then suddenly jump could be a faulty sensor but could also be indicative of a blocked degassing system or an excessive amount of gas in the cooling system.

It is important to observe the engine during warmup and keep monitoring the heat of various hoses, the thermostat operation and so forth.

Heater does not get hot just luke warm

1st check the coolant level to make sure it's ok, low level can result in insufficient heat. What is going on with the engine temp? Is it running on the 'cool' side or normal range, in the normal zone, or running hot? If it is on the low side of normal, you may need a new thermostat. If the thermostat sticks open, the engine won't reach operating temp, and you will have minimal heat.

2004 Tahoe Heating Problems

Did you open the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is full of coolant? Sometimes the hose from the coolant reservoir to the radiator becomes plugged, and the radiator will become low on coolant even when the plastic reservoir is full. Low water levels will prevent the coolant system from getting hot water from the engine to the radiator or heater cores. This will cause the engine to run hotter while the heater appears to not be working.

Intermitant temperature

Check to make sure your thermostat works right by monitoring the warming up of your engine. With a completely cold engine, start and run the engine for a few minutes, then put your hand on the top radiator hose to monitor if and when it gets warm as the thermostat opens more and more and note the gauge reading( if it works) the top radiator hose should be unbearably hot within 5-8 minutes. If the therm. opens right it should close right aswell, staying open a little while eventhough the radiator may have cooled may be what you are experiencing causing the rapid cooling and is nothing to worry about. The Hose should not get warm very soon after starting the engine. Regarding you gauge, lets take one step at a time, verify proper op. or the therm.
