Question about 1993 Mitsubishi Montero

1 Answer

Truck has problems starting.

I have a 1993 Mitsubishi Montero V-6 3.0L. The problem I'v been having is the truck takes a bunch of trys (turning the motor over) before it starts. After a few attemps the truck will studder (idle ruff) and then die. After that the truck fires right up. I just installed a new fuel filter hoping that would fix the problem. What could be causing this? I was thinking clogged fuel line or fuel injector's. I even put some fuel system and injector cleaning solution into my tank and still getting the same resaults. Please help.

The first thing i would do is check all of the vaccum lines and be sure to check the one behind the throttle body and when was the last time you had a tuneup and before you do all of this have the timing check also to see if it is off.

You don't add oil with the car running

You broke the vacuum for the crankcase evacuation

If you have idle problems then they have to be diagnosed

Fuel pump do i have to take the tank don completely to remove the pump

You should be able to access the ful pump thru the back flor of the montero. Start by removing the trim piece at the back of the Montero, this is the piece that holds the carpet down atthe back of the truck. Fold the back seat forward, now carefully pull up on the carpet starting from the back. Just before the rear axel you will see an access plate with, I believe, six bolts holding it down, remove and "bingo", you will see the access for the fuel pump and sending unit.

Please let me know if this had assisted you,

Thanks,
Tom

I have a 93 mitsubishi montero has power wont start. Good battery new starter. Was completley dead replaced the battery connectors now has power but just clicks when i try to turn it over. what to do?

you may have to replace the cable going to the starter. it can corrode inside the casing, causing a lot of resistance. that would cause a clicking noise from the starter

Hello I have a Montero Sport 1993, I have problems when turn on, but does not turn on takes a period of 20 minutes approximates to turn on, you change the battery, the starter but the problem continues....

You probably need to change the ignition selenoid. It's what sends the current to the starter when you turn the key. If it is bad you'll just hear a clicking sound over and over till it warms up and finally connects. It will get worse over time.
