Question about 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Rough Idle Okay After replacing the coils and plugs, I have developed a mysterious rough idle. comes and goes, shuts the car off with out warning like switching the key. No apparent vacuum leaks, otherwise runs like a new car. Any help???

    Okay I have fixed the bugger, there was a vacuum leak on the back of the engine. There is an elbow behind the intake manifold , not that but what ever the elbow connects to I assume it goes into the engine crankcase? It does not seem to effect the preformance at all. Is there any long term effects this may cause? Apparently who ever owned the car before me had eliminated the EGR system, there is no valve, controller or anything.

Try cleaninhg the contact block on the coils as this is the only thing that you have touched ,put a bit of coppergrease on the pins to help the connections and try that,before you take it to dealers

    iam always telling people to check these vacumn pipes,but in your case it threw me when you said it was working beforehand,plus after a days work i get tired ,well thats my excuse and iam sticking to it.As for the ecg valve ??another thing i tell people to disconnect as they cause excessive smoking and rough running when they pack up ,and the way i see it is that older engines never had this fitted ?? er indoors car has been disconnected for 2 yrs now and it passes the annual inspection with no problems (rover 200 diesel turbo) So while it runs ok leave well alone is my best advice.Right have to clear inbox then i have to get another car back up the inspection depot as it failed on the brakes.I took the job over from another so called mechanic so fitted new exhaust and just took it without checking it myself .handbrake low on one side so its down to checking the auto adjusters as no doubt he adjusted cable and didnt remove the drums.anyway best of british

If the head job was done properly then a replacement engine is indicated as there is a ring problem in the low cylinder. Hi, Ian H/D from Tamarac Florida with my 1997 740i it has a rough idle sometimes with misfire codes coming up all the time and p 111 codes i changed all the coils put new ones and replaced the idles v

There is a known issue with the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC), if you put a scanner on the vehicle that has the capability of reading Numbers... Look at the IAC and it should be around 20, if it is around 100, you IAC is not working properly.

94 honda accord vtec Car started to have a rough idle and a **** like feel when it only comes to a stop as in a stopsign or stoplight. When I accelerate pass 10mph the rough idle and jerks goes away....

I don't think it's a fuel problem. Sounds more like spark. Change plugs and wires, and possibly the coil pack. Also could be idle control sensor.

My 02 galant runs rough when put in gear but in idle runs okay it also surges up and down replaced the plug wires

Okay, lets start with the oil you found on spark plugs when you were replacing them. this oil is coming from the valve cover tube hole area, notice the plugs go into the holes in the valve cover, there is a gasket the goes around the top of the tubes and when it leaks it goes into spark plug hole, the valve cover needs replacing .
this will cause rough idle and running problems, after replacing valve cover gasket the holes must be cleaned, using crab cleaner, spray into holes and use air to blow out . this may need to be done a few times to get oil out .
after oil is removed . then remove spark plugs and wipe them clean.
The next step is to find the air (vacuum leak) , you said you hear it around intake tube. check for cracks or broken vacuum line. this leak will cause idle problems and driving problems,

Code p0306 means that cylinder six is misfiring. Take it to a mechanic or try to fix it yourself. Change spark plug, plug wires, solenoid.

You don't have a carburator. Remove the intake manifold and replace the fuel pressure regulator spyder assy.

2001 v6 escape rough idle when cold

To update my earlier repair on the 2001 6 cyl Escape: When cold, and when the ignition was turned over but no accelerator pressure given, the rough idle finally returned the P0303 code again when the check engine light came on indicating that it wasn't caused by the plugs or the coil. FYI, I had replaced the intake manifold gaskets during the original repair and just prior to that I had replaced the fuel filter which was very dirty (I cut it open to see).

The repair manual referred to fuel injectors as a possible problem. I have run three tanks of fuel using different injector cleaning products and am very pleased with the results. Cold starts are much smoother and I am unable to coax out the P0303 code or any other code.

My opinion, change the fuel filter, use a fuel injector cleaner for a couple of tanks, change the plugs if the problem still exists. The coils were not the problem on my vehicle.

You may need a new wiring harness. They have to be ordered from Germany. This is my guess. (I am having a similar issue with my '94; rough idle, #4 cylinder not firing intermittantly, replaced plugs and 8 ignition coils; new harness is my mechanics guess)
