I have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The mirror & it's back completely fell out of the compartment it is set in. The back of the mirror...I guess it's the harness part still has the screws in it. It's a power mirror by the way!
Replace the whole mirror, its like 30 bucks at the junkyard if you pull it. It just has 3 10mm nuts that hold it in place, plus the wiring. the black cover that looks like a triangle is covering it up.

You'll need to remove your door panel (screws are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door) and then remove the cover that
is right above the panel adjacent to the mirror. remove the bolts
holding the mirror down and reverse to put it back together
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel
and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and
disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door
