We just bought a 2005 that came off lease. Its got right around 100,000kms on it and we are noticing the same noise. I find that its quiet when the car is fairly cool as in just started or running just a short period but once we have been driving for a while and we come to a stop the whine is evident. I would guess its the power steering pump that is going and I assume its quiet when cool because the fluid is still a little thicker and does a better job of quieting the bearing. Once warm the fluid thins and the noise becomes more pronounced. I'm glad we bought the extended warranty. Our dealer service dept. is excellent and I'm sure they will resolve it for us once we get it in.

I had a similar problem. After several months of being told nothing was wrong. They had to replace the steering rack and power steering pump.

Have you checked the fluid to see if you have enough?

Here's the answer you were looking for. I hope it's not too late. There's a recall on the reservoir because it starves the pump and they slowly breakdown (whine). Take it in, cash in on the recall, get the new reservoir, demand a new pump. You paid good money for the Cadillac of minivans...you deserve it. Worked for me!

Have a 2005 Odyssey and recently having a tough time turning the steering wheel. Checked Power Steering fluid but it is OK. After car gets going it isnt a problem. What is wrong? Temps have been around -5...

More than likely it is still the power steering pump. What is happening is the fluid is heating up and thinning out and cycling through the pump causing it to work normally. There is actually a SB about the hard steer at low speeds on the Odyssey - contact your local dealer and they should be familiar with this issue.

Whining noise progressively gets louder with speed

One wheel turning faster than the other is normal if both wheels are off the ground. If one wheel is dragging when the other wheel is on the ground, it could be brakes or a wheel hub bearing.
Usually if the noise happens on right turns, the left hub bearing is failing, and vice versa.

1999 ford explorer limited whining noise in front end

Whining noise is probably in one of the pulleys or belts. Probably the power steering. And the popping is probably CV axles.

Yukon makes loud noise when backing out and turning steering wheel

If the noise is coming from the engine compartment then you may just be low on steering fluid.

Can you describe where the noise is coming from and what it sounds like?

Is is more of a grinding, or more of a whining or humming?

There is a noise coming from the right-front wheel area during a left turn. It almost sounds like a tire-rub on the inner wheel-well cover, but it also makes this same noise when stationary while turning...

I had this same problem and the dealer could not reproduce the noise when I would take it in to get looked at. (during the day when the temperature was warm) So I decided to leave it over night and they test drove it in the morning when the temperature was cold and they heard the noise. It ended up bing the steering rack.

Making noise when turning steering wheel but no leakage

The power steering pump that is used in your car is notorious for noise issues, it is a loud whine which gets louder as you turn the steering wheel right or left, flush the system fluid and replace the pump.

Power steering pump is clicking and whining

It sounds like the power steering hydraulic system has air in it, causing the pump to whine and the bubbles to show up in the fluid. The clicking noise is probably just the power steer pressure switch operating normally, but you should probably take it back in to the repairer and get them to check it over if you're concerned. They should not have given it back to you if the power steer was not bled up properly, or at the very least should have advised you that it was not fully bled, but would come right after a couple of days.
