Question about 2006 Kia Optima

1 Answer

Drivers side door won't open on Kia Optima 2006. All other doors unlock and open, Can't open the drivers side door from the inside either. Any suggestions?

I have to use the passenger door to enter the car and then climb over the console to the drivers side. Drivers side door will not lock/unlock. I can't even open the door from the inside.

SOURCE: my drivers side door wont

Hi

This is probably a broken spring on the door latch. Remove the driver's door inner panel, put the window fully up look at the lock mechanism and linkages and with the lock unlocked maneuver the lock linkages to open the door.

However you need to clarify if you mean open the door or unlock the door. It sounds like you mean unlock the door. First I think you probably need a new key. When the door is locked and you are inside the car. Pull on the inside door handle. That is supposed to unlock all the doors. the second time you pull on the handle it should open the door. If you can't get anything to work by pressing down on the knob in the door you probably need a new lock acatuator. You can't swap left to right. it doesn't work that way. the lock actuator is a rectangular black box that clips onto the top of the lock. Try disconnecting the wires to it and see if that helps.

If you can't open the door by using either handle or key, the actuator and likely the lock mechanism will need replacing because it is the lock mechanism that hooks into the door handle.Furthermore, if you can't open the door with the key, then the door handle components or just the tumbler is likely not lubricated enough. You may also need a new tumbler for the door handle. This doesn't need to be drilled out. Its actually pretty easy to swap tumblers once you get the handle out of the car.

I have the same problem. The only way to open the drivers side is to use the key. It is not a regulator switch, it's a small plastic piece that needs replace. Go to the Kia forum and they will tell you about it.

Most vehicles that have a power release, also have a manual release. Check inside the vehicle, around the location of the outside filler door. You might have a removable panel, that will reveal the fuel door release cable.

Pull the door panel and find the cause, it can be a faulty lock motor or the linkage rod has come off due to a broken retainer clip.

It sounds like the connecting rod popped out of its plastic connector. Pull the door panel off and check both ends of the rod. It must be unhooked at one end or the other.

If you have tried the inside, and outside door handle, and it does not open you need a new door latch assembly.
